Take a look at my mock design for my online portfolio. I wanted to keep it simple but effective. I think that its a bit dark and may need a lighter color somewhere. Please feel free to state your opinion and don't hold back. I can take it! :}

PS: any suggestions on a background instead of white?

Looks good so far. One thing I would immediately change however is the text color and font. The white is a little too contrasting and times new roman (i think that's it right?) doesn't fit very well. Possibly I light green for the color and just a smoother font than Times New Roman, maybe Arial or something.

As far as a background color besides white, why not black? Or maybe a green with some scanlines or something. Definitely not white though!

Anyway, nice work hope it comes out good in the end.

The font type will be changing, working on my css for the site as we speak. But i'll keep that text color change in mind and it will most likely change. Thanks

Colors colors... Work on colors ReX D. Right now, as I looked at the image, I thought some google adds were put on the black bg.. I would say, use light colors for this layout. And also, try to add some depth to it, to have it blended nicely with the bg. And do smth with transitions from header to content and from content to footer.
