So, I've been trying to learn how to play the guitar by myself for a while now, but the progress is really slow.
Does anybody have any tips, some good (and free) online lessons or some nice e-books?

moved to general help area.
I would say use ultimate-guitar.com - really good resource, lots of free guitar tabs and lessions available.

Yeh definatley. I learnt by just learning how to do a power chord, and then learning stuff I listen to (e.g Green Day etc), and built on from there.
Sites like ultimate-guitar.com are definatley worth checking out. Mxtabs.net got taken down, otherwise I would of recommended that.

ultimate-guitar.com is the best when you want Tabs and Chords, I suggest you pick up some guitar book easy thing in a store, that's how I learned the chords, then it all comes with playing more and more.

Start with simple chord proggressions, such as, blink 182 - miss you, taking back sunday - divine intervention, etc. Than listen to the songs enough so that you figure out the strumming pattern, slowly move on to harder chords, bar chords, power chords, etc.

I've used Ultimate-Guitar for quite a while, but didn't fint it that useful, for some reason. Oh well, I guess I'll just read the stuff once more.
Any other good resources?

depends what you want to do, when i first started playing guitar 15 years ago like everyone i learned some greenday and nirvana, stairway blah blah blah, but i never really wanted to play other peoples stuff, i started writing and singing my own songs, and thats when guitar really became fulfilling, I am completely self taught, grabbed a guitar chord chart and went from there, if you want to play better theres only one thing to do and its not a site or a trick or something you can get for free (or buy) just practice, it takes time.

I'll try Guitar Pro 5 now, a friend of mine told me that's a great program. Will check that out, and if that don't work too good, I'll PM you
