I hope there is a miracle out there :P

I need to convert 200 jpg avatars into transparent gif (all currently have white background to be exact).

Any possible way?

You could write an action, but it would be rather hard to write one for all the avatars.

I'd try with magic wand (I'm afraid that more advanced methods of masking/extracting just won't work with such an action) - click in the top left/right corner (it has to be white in ALL the avatars to be processed!), invert selection, clone layer and remove background.
Of course this solution will have all the disadvantages of the magic wand tool use - if there are subtle tonal changes, the result would be rather poor.

I wouldn't expect miracles here :D

yes indeed, all depends on the avatars, and the difference in backgrounds.
Could you post some of them?

Varelse and Chadi are right. It depends on the avartars and their backgrounds. If each picture has a complete white background and some simple figures on top, it is not that difficult. But complex figures/illustrations will make it very difficult. I don't know if you have Adobe (previous Macromedia) Fireworks. That programm has a Batch Process function in it that makes it possible to do change jpg's in transparant gif's in a second. Maybe you can check that out. A trial version of Fireworks can be downloaded here for free: Macromedia Fireworks website.

Good luck!
