Hey everyone, I was wondering what everybody uses to create their templates, buttons, icons, logos, etc. Such as the Search button for these forums, what would you say that was created in, and what do you personally use for these. Also, is there any books you would reccomend for learning how to make icons and graphics specifically for the web? I had a computer graphic class is school about 2 years ago where we learned basic photoshop and illustrator, but after that i've been on my own. Thanks.
What do you use for...

I think tutorials are good for learning things, not so much the books, I still buy books though just not so much about learning PS and stuff. So try the photoshop tutorial section of P2L's main page.
I use Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, mainly.

I own the Macromedia Studio so I use Macromedia Fireworks, but I also had a trial of Adobe Illustrator, which I am currently saving up for.

Right now i'm using illustrator to create the basic layout and then photoshop to do the gradients and stuff like that. I really want to learn more about how to create web graphics, etc.

Photoshop is the industry standard for graphic design along with Illustrator. My advice would be stick to those - especially if your looking for a career in design. When i was looking for a job not one wanted someone who could work in Fireworks - it was all Photoshop and Illustrator.

i use photoshop and for the animation i use flash. For the books, why don't u try to find in internet ? like tutorial, and it's FREE. You can find it in P2L. This an awesome website...
And if you wanna look more, www.tutorialized.com . And just for suggest : try to click lint in affliates. It will bring you to another website and with more good stuff (tutorial, etc...)

Fireworks is entirely too underrated. I love the program, much more user friendly than PS and can get any job you need done.

I use Corel Draw a good amount for logos, business cards, and things like that. I also use Adobe Illustrator as well. For web stuff, I use Photoshop, Image Ready, and Dreamweaver.
My site was created with a combination of Corel Draw, Photoshop, Image Ready, and Dreamweaver.
