I have just purchased a new acer aspire the comes with service pack 2 and the first day i use it, it was fine.
After i install my modem and mcafee internet suite, I reboot it and then everything
starts freezing. After I type the password in for my mcafee security everything freezes,
and sometimes before i type my password my computer freezes. One time I was lucky
and my computer didn't freeze. So i try to restore and found out my restoration point I
made when my acer came out of the box is gone. I resorted to restoring it before I installed
my modem, still nothing changes. When i turn my computer off and then on again I get a
message I don't remember it clearly but it goes like:

Checking certain files in drive C: for consistency
Checking fat32 for consistency
Click and button in the next: 9 seconds to skip process
windows highly doesn't recommend this

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my brand new acer aspire and how how to fix the
problem.

The problem is that i can't return it because theres a 15% restocking fee and in my case
I would have to give up 150 dollars

Also I got it from circuit city and I can't really go back there because my car broke down
:(

Do you know if they will pick it up?

Thre shouldnt be any charge at all.

They sold you faulty goods, they should give you a complete refund or a new.

I don't have a solution, however I belive it would be best to get the place where you bought it from to have a look at it and from what I heard also MacAfee slows your computer considerably.

Perhaps should this be in General Help?

Erik i dont mean to sound "Bossy" But you're kind of repeating everything people are saying.. If you have something to say, make it count and not repeat other users.

Thanks :)

Did it come with restore CDs? You can just reformat, there shouldn't be much on it if you got it recently. Have you t9ried contacting Acer? They usually have good laptops, my brother got one, it was amazing, fast, and cool (heat).

Start>>programs>>accessories>>system tools>>restore..

You don't need the restore CD for that and xp should have a restore. You can go back to when your computer was last working good.

Just a suggestion.

he has already done this, it says in the topic post.

My suggestion is if you cant send it back (which is unlikely - and btw its faulty goods so they cant charge you) then simply reformat.

LOL LOL LOL

I've isolated the problem and its nothing serious. No faulty computer or anything. It actually was
Mcaffee internet suite reacting to my d-link modem. If i uninstall my d-link it works perfectly fine.

Now the problem is that i don't have acess to the internet with my new labtop

First i tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that didn't work. After that I tried to install d-link first
then mcaffee and that also didn't work. Does anybody know how I can set up internet without
mcaffee responding badly to it.

Ebay it.

Use NOD32 or norton, (dont anyone dare start a flame on how norton slows computers down - that seriously gets on my nerves lol)

I like McAfee, but never found it to be great.

p.s you tried updating the d-link driver? Failing that i dunno
