NTL is to begin field trials of ultra fast broadband next month in a bid to hit speeds of up to 100Mb.

The UK cableco, which has received the thumbs up to acquire Telewest and is still holding talks to buy Virgin Mobile, is hooking up with US outfit ARRIS to run the trials. The firms have already completed testing in the lab, but want to see how well the technology works in the real world.

Possible applications for the 100Mb service include super fast movie downloads and other content, security services such as closed circuit TV, and online gaming.

Using the ARRIS' FlexPath 100Mb technology, mega quick broadband services "can be delivered over existing cable networks using readily available home networking devices", the firms said in a statement.

Do you think it will be mega expensive? Below $200 monthly for this would be good. Although average~fast speeds cost about $20 to $60 here in California,USA. By average~fast I mean anywhere between 1MB/s - 10MB/s.

Well in UK.. Im with Telewest (Whom NTL Wish to take over) and Err.. http://www.telewest....service.do?id=2

I have the Broadband complete.. and according to the currency converter thats 47.7104 USD and 53.6790 CAD

Now for That money.. it is amazingly fast.. So .. just by adding up what we got.. 4mb .. so thats 25 Times £25.00 summing up to.. £625 .. thats 1,341.82 CAD and 1,192.88 USD

Now im not saying it will be that price.. but err i dont think im far off lol.. Im guessing it will all be altered obviousloy.. but just by the prices ive got im just multiplying an average per month..

But NTL are a good company and i would assume.. 100MB Would be around.. £60 - £90 again thats 133.584 USD and 150.316 CAD

So yeah we got 100MB But you got to be a millionaire to have it ;)

EDIT:Sorry.. Telewest HAVE Been taken over

Well we have 2Mb Broadband for ~£17/month so x50 = £850/month ($1609 USD, $1812 CAD) Which is on the expensive side.

That's very expensive, Were swtichign to Sky Broadband, it's 16MB broadband and is only for £10 a month.

It's exclusive for Sky TV customers though thats why It's so cheap.

They'll probably just jack up prices for pay per view porn Lmao.

I'm currently paying £25 for a 4mb connection from NTL but only because all other companies havent got around to supplying new lines in Northern Ireland.

I wanted to get 16mb from Sky but of course their catch is, they dont supply to hardly anywhere of the UK yet.

BT can only offer us 2mb, which is half of what i am currently on, no chance :)

Orange need to sort out their research before supplying Broadband as they say we can only get a maximum of 2mb in our location, even though the max line is 6.5mb.

And finally, i hate companies offering FREE BB when in fact they give you a pathetic allowance of 2gb monthly, i could use that in 1 hour :D

Lol, Couldn't we all, I just don't think that broadband companies understand how much people need to use the internet, but I guess if it is completly free and there is no catch, if you really really needed to go on I guess it wouldnt be that bad.

Well in Tokyo, they allready have introduced 100MB Broadband..

And obviously.. homes with a network of like.. 8 PCs wont need this ridiculous ammount.. but when you have companies in Tokyo, New York, London, Paris etc.. You got to understand.. They send and receieve emails every second..

Its so much easier when things are faster.. And companies of over 200 Workstations on 10MB Broadband is just silly lol..

Hey fastest speed I have ever gotten from microsoft.com for like....3 seconds was like 14mb/sec and it slowly went down XD When I was downloading the Vista beta, by the time it got to the usual 700kb/sec it already had about 400MB downloaded ;)
