Hey guys ;)

Don't know if anyone has noticed (no one has mentioned it) but on v2, there was the large rectangle ads, the 468x60 ads mixed in with the tutorials, the image ads on the left where the community buzz was and some other images here and there, plus the partner ads. Oh.. and an ad on top of the forum. Anyone noticed almost all those ads are gone?

The issue though is that I am making peanuts right now and it's an issue, because I do this fulltime along with my other site projects. I am thinking of changing to CPM based image ads, so basically on the main pages of P2L, there would be an image leaderboard ad in the news box. These ads pay out more, but of course it's an image ad and sticks out more. I'm going to try this out asap so I'd appreciate your feedback on this. The bottom line is that it's either this large single ad, or we go back to several smaller image and text ads all over the place.

I am also considering popunders that wouldn't show up for members... Popunders are window popups that show up once per visitor under the main page. If I did do that, I'd code it so members don't get them at all... I *may* try it to see if it's worth the hassle. I can't stand ads, but it's a necessary evil... I can't run this site properly AND work a fulltime job.. it just too busy, so it's one or the other.

I hope everyone understands my position on this :P

Yep :P

The pop under idea sounds great! .. Also.. I dont know which ads you mean. the ones above the newest Tutorials and where the tutorial nav is when you click a category?

Edit: The Image ads look great ;)

Ya I thought it felt a little empty heh. I really don't mind the image ads, actually I kind of prefer them to tons of google ones. Pop-unders can get a little irritating. But since its a money issue, do what you have to do.

Just my 2 cents

Everyone has to realize this site does not run on peanuts and you need to have ads whether we like them or not.

All large sites are covered in ads these days that's the only way they can stay alive on the web, and same old complainers they hate popups etc but I would seriously love to see these same whingers run a big site with no incoming revenue unless your filthy rich you cannot do it.

Theres quite a few big companies out there, can't recall what you call them but have you ever seen those ads that slide into the pages? not popups just cannot think what they are called atm.

Also were you not going to place a donate button up?

what about Premium Tutorials..?

Users can post Tutorals directly to Pixel2life instead of to another site and sell them between prices that you think is suitable, and the money that comes in you get commison of?..

Just an idea..

When a non-member clicks on a tutorial link you could have a frameset displayed, your ad on top, suggesting "Remove this ad, become a member", or something along the lines of that. Then the tutorial would be displayed below.

I cannot really speak for Dan but personally that's a bad idea as then your taking revenue away from others sites. You want to go directly to a tutorial not be sent on a merry goose chase trying to get out of frames.

I think you should put popunders once every 25 page views. I dont think it would bug people too much if it was like that.

Popunders aren't per page load... it's per visitor :P

Dan why dont you code some special features for paid only members? Im not sure what this could be but there could be like a small fee per year like $10 and you get these features that regular members dont. Or you get to view the site ad free, im not sure just tossing some ideas in the air....

I'd rather not to be honest... As long as people view and click ads, there's no need for fees imho. When the day comes that everyone has ad blockers, then we won't have a choice but to charge fees. That's pretty much a global issue with ad blockers atm.

Why dont you do something like you put up the usual amount of ads for guest, and put only a few ads up for members, this would be better than blinking image ads, or annoying pop unders imo. Member or not.

I'm putting up image ads for sure, but I have filtered out those crappy ones that give you seizures. I don't care what those pay, that shit ain't touchin the site. :tiphat:

Thank You.

Ok, ads are up... if anything is seriously hideous, let me know. Basically we're using valueclick for the ads, then adsense kicks in, and then RSI. We'll see how it goes.

The first ad I got with the new banner ad is an informational ad about nail fungus on some foot. haha I don't mind how it looks though overall.
