I say almost dead but it still has a good few thousand(s) years left in it yet

They say.... If the universe was a clock face and the beginning (the big bang) was at midnight and the end (the bigger bang lol) was at midday, the current time would be 2 seconds to midday.

Here is a video from NASA, the active parts of the sun are bright, the rest of it has burned itself out.

Thousands of years is a major underestimate. Current research suggests that the sun will be able to support life on earth for around another one billion years. Though it wont really die out for at least another five billion (Developing into a red giant, then white dwarf).

Also, I think you may have confused the clock quote with one about the length of time humanity has been around. The universe is certainly not half-way through its life - even if the universe were to 'end' in the quickest way possible (big crunch), it would take at least another 100 billion years for the expansion to slow down and reverse (Sorry, I can't find the citation for this).
Apparently the current most likely end to the universe is the Big Rip, though this would take trillions, rather than billions of years.

Ya I had seen the clock regarding the life of Eart up until now. But like Mag said from what researchers have concluded we still have a good 1-2 billions years left before the sun engulfs the Earth as a red giant. Actually our Galaxy and Another are set to colide in I believe 8 billion years....I think Mag explaind the universe portion pretty well so I'll leave that part to him :P

ROFL.

Anyone who has ever done any type of basic physics work at school knows the sun has 5 million years left. hehe, 1000s of years lol

There is a lot of confusion about what type of universe ours is, however it seems we are JUST past the mark where our universe is a constant expanding one. It wont reverse :D

But we have to start thinking about it because just think about our great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grand kids, Do we really want them to die this horrible death..

Ok stupid people, Don't answer that question, but still, Just think, we may be the generation that saves the world for another generation. What we do now is making history, Lets give our grand kids somthing good to read about there ansestors :D

all you white coat wearing astronomy anoraks who said in a high ptiched nasal scientific tone "but wait actually according to calculations it will be billions of eons before our star swallows all of its orbital satellites" can go back to your drawings now LOL

:glare: :D :) :)
