Alright i was thinking of using server seed to host my site. Would this be a smart choice or go somewhere else?

Thanks

-Devyn

I don't know if you have read the whole thread, but SS is just giving up on everything, Faken even moved his servers to some one else.
I don't think it would be a good choice going to SS, even Ty would be back.
People are moving to different hosts. some to (mt), others to dreamhost, hostdime and so on...

Donna posts every time a URL (which I don't remember) to a web hosting talk group. search for that one and decide upon the feedback they give.

OK guys, here is a step by step process of how to get your domain transferred from enom to your new domain registrar.

How do you know if you are with enom?

If you registered your domain name with Server Seed when you first bought your hosting, you are with enom. You can verify this by going to http://www.whois.sc and typing in your domain name. Click the search button and your whois record will come up. The domain registrar should say enom.

Why do I need to move my domain name?

If you intend to move to a new host from ServerSeed, then you will need to edit the NS1 records on your domain name. You do this by logging into your domain registrar account and changing the settings. If you're with enom, you don't have access to it, so you have to move.

Where should I move to?

There are many to choose from... personally, I use http://www.Godaddy.com

How do I move my domain to my new registrar?

Whether you use godaddy or some other registrar, all the options are pretty much the same. The first thing you need to do is find the "Transfer a Domain" option. Click that and it will ask you which domain you want to move. Enter in the domain name and go through the billing process to start the transfer. Once you've paid for the transfer, you will receive an email a few minutes later with a Transaction ID and a Security Code. The email to which this notice is sent to is the email specified as the administrative contact in the domain registration. If you're not sure which email that is, go to http://www.whois.sc and look up your domain. it will show you who the contact email is.

Once you get that email, log in to your registrar account and go to the "Pending Transfers" area. In there it will should you that your domain is pending authorization. There should be some kind of "Authorize" or "Enter Authorization" button. Click on that and it will ask you for your Transaction ID and Security Code that was emailed to you. After you submit that, it will ask you to confirm the domain transfer and you're done.

Now here is what happens... Godaddy will contact enom to request the transfer. Here is where you MAY have a problem. If your domain name is in LOCKED status, enom will reject the transfer and you will receive an email saying your transfer is rejected because of the lock status. If this happens, all you have to do is send an email to transfers@enom.com and request that your domain be unlocked so that you can transfer it to Godaddy or whatever new registrar you are using. IMPORTANT! Make sure you send the email using the email account that is registered as the domain technical contact. If you don't, it will be rejected. After a few hours or so, you will get an email from enom requesting a final confirmation or perhaps some additional confirmation to ensure you are the valid owner. Once you respond, you'll get a confirmation saying that your domain is now unlocked.

If you had to go through this unlock process, you can now log back into your new registrar account and go to the "Pending Domain Transfers" area again and you will see an option for "Re-Initiate this transfer". Click that and you will once again be prompted to enter your Transaction ID and Security Code. Once you've done that, you should be good to go.

Now, with your transfer properly initiated and validated, it will take a few days to process. After a few days, you will get an automated message from the Server Seed billing area in your email saying that they have received your transfer request and you can either not respond and have the transfer go through in a few more days automatically, or you can click a link within the email to confirm the transfer immediately. Once you do that, you will get a final email from Godaddy or your registrar saying that your domain is successful.

You can now log in to your registrar and change the NS1 settings to your new server.

Hope that helps everyone <_<

Did you read my tutorial on how to do it posted a few posts back? Enom doesn't send those to you, your new registrar does.

I have and no its apparently diffrent for .org domains.

For .ORG domains you need an additional Auth Code and thats not the Transaction ID and a Security Code you get when transfering a .com or .net domain.

Quote

What is an "authorization code" for a domain, and why would I need one?

If you are transferring a .biz, .info or .org extension, you will be asked (by any registrar) to provide an authorization code. This is simply because the registries for those specific domain extensions require this as a means to provide an extra layer of protection against unauthorized transfers.

Only your current registrar/domain name provider can provide you with the authorization code associated with your domain name.

You should contact your current registrar/domain name provider to get the authorization code for each domain name you would like to transfer to your new registrar.

Each domain name has its own individual authorization code, which are alphanumeric strings, between 6 and 16 characters.

I'll be watching this thread, since within the next couple of months ill be changing host and considering what i have heard from Dan and others about serverseed i had no reason not to go with them (especially with the p2l discount :P )

I find it hard to believe that this wasn't a one off due to the problem described by Dan and what little contact i have had with Tysoft (or Ty :P ) and from posts i have read he seemed to be alright to me...

None the less, open mind and all that, ill watch the outcome :P

Well he kept an open mind about it, so I don't think he's got a whole lot to swallow. Now had he been completely solid on his viewpoint, then we'd all be handing him glasses of water to help him wash down his Nikes :P
