The scum of the earth seems to be rising to the surface in the wake of the Tsunami disasters in Asia. Among all the horrible news, photos and just about everything that we prefer not to think about, there are criminals preying on this desperate situation, and the Nigerian Scammers are no less the pieces of feces we're seeing in that region. These pathetic excuses for humans are actually preying on the goodwill of donators and taking away from cash that is supposed to help these poor victims of disaster. So please read the following warning and don't call for this scam!!!

Quote

A new fraudulent email has begun circling the Internet. It claims to be from an Asian charity helping the victims of the recent devastating Tsunami that hit South-East Asia.

A member of an anti-scam forum has said, Nigerian scammers have sent out an email, originating from Lagos in Nigeria, claiming to be from a Singaporean charity that is involved with the relief effort. They ask that recipients send money by Western Union to help out the victims of the disaster.

The fraudulent email states:

“DEAR SIR/MADAM
SIR WE WANT TO SAKE YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT FINANCIALY FOR THE ASSISTANCE OF THE DISSASTER FOR THE DISPLACED PEOPLE IN THE ASIA TSUNAMIS EARTHQUAKE ATTACK. WE ARE SLOID FOUNDATION A HUMANITARY AND NON GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATION IN ASIA.
PLEASE WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT WITH AT LIST 100 DOLLAR UPWARD TO ASSIT MORE THAN 2,000,000 DISPLACED PEOPLE AND OVER 500,000 HOMELESS, AND over 33,000 poeple are dead and we need to assit the families of the dead people. WE NEEDED THE FUNDS TO HELP GET FOOD, MATERIALS, DRUGS, FUEL, ETC...

YOU CAN SEND YOUR DONATIONS TO ANY OF OUR CENTRES IN ASIA.all donations by cash should be send by western union money transfer.”

"When you send in your donation, send it by cheque or money order. That way you can trace it, you have a printed record of it and you also have something for tax purposes," said Sheila Charneski, with the BBB.

If you would like to make a donation, Google has a list of sites already set up to provide information and handle donations for victims throughout the region.

Please give if you can and be sure to know where you're sending your money at all times!!

:) Yea Ive recieved tons of emails from these people. Saying that they will give me some million odd dollars if I collect this money for them. Ive seen ones stating that some oil guy died and this lady needs the money but cant collect it for what ever reason so she needs a bank account here to put it in.

Its b.s. that they will do stuff like that and for a cause to help others, thats the lowest thing every to scam. They need to get a real job or something.

And then theres this,

Computer Worm Exploits Tsunami To Spread Virus

The worm appears with the subject line: "Tsunami donation! Please help!" and invites recipients to open an attachment called "tsunami.exe" -- which, if opened, will forward the virus to other Internet users.

Why can't people do something PRODUCTIVE for the disaster instead of exploiting it for their own evil deeds? These people don't belong in a democratic society, and don't deserve to be called people. It makes me sick the things people use for their own gain.

Well, in my honest opinion we (the American public) have already given enough money to Tsunami relief efforts. I'm not trying to sound mean, but what are they going to do with the billions of dollars (cumatively from all countries) that they are recieving. They weren't exactly living in fancy, big houses before, It doesn't take a lot of money to build up houses in mass amounts. They just dont require that kind of money for their relief. This may sound cruel, but it is my honest opinion.

I can imagine that the entire encomony of the devastated countries were completely destroyed and will need rebuilding. It's not just houses, its entire cities that need rebuilt, facilities need to be built to produce fresh water and they need medical supplies and hospitals.

We (The Canadian public) will most likely be giving more, and I imagine our government will be giving more, because as Prime Minister Paul Martin was over there overseeing the relief effort, he was visibly on the verge of tears at the conditions over there. They need our help, and I believe that they deserve it.

I agree. A lot of people were living on the streets before the tsunami. It doesn't take billions of dollars to buy new boxes for them to live in!

I don't think that is necessary here at all. Cut these people some slack, they've suffered the worst natural disaster of the last century.

Yes, I have gotton a lot of those scam emails. Like ones that say something like this:

"DEAR SIR/MADAM

I am robert e smith son of george b. smith. My father died in the tsunami over in Asia, and he had be a trust fund set up under his name, and I can't touch it intil I'm 21, and so I need another adult to co sign for me, to receive the money. If you do this for me, I will give you 20% of the 8 or so million in there.
Please help me! "

Of course, it had tons of more gramatical errors, and spelling errors, and I just remember that much off the top of my head.

I hate it how they take advantage of this sitution.
