hey there.

I just started with Photoshop, and after i followed a tut i founded out you can copy a part of a picture by using the pen tool. after that make selection. Then you will get a pop up window with the feather. After that it is selected. But when i try to copy it and past it in another document or the same it doesnt copy at all. and also in the same document it turns out red, or it doesnt copy it out at all.

Hope you understand ^_^

1. you made shape
2. turned it into selection

right?

well if you now click on the shape to copy it, all you do is activate the vectorshape (selection is also still active bdw) and you cant just move the shape with the path selection tool that becomes activated automaticly.

You need to click on the "move tool" first (top right icon) and then you can move it anywhere you want.

There is a little catch though: what you are moving is the layer, which means that you are not moving the selection, but the empty layer with the layer vector mask (the pen tool makes a new layer with the shape as a vector mask).

This is usually what you want and i never ever delete that layer with layer mask, but... if you need to:
1. go to paths and turn it into selection like you did
2. if you want (and believe me you want this) save this selection first
3. delete the layer with layer mask
4. then choose the move tool and copy the selection to another document.
