As if PC gaming wasn't expensive enough, Nvidia have unveiled a graphics card that will be known to shooter fans simply as 'God'. The $18K Quadro Plex 1000.

You could buy a pretty decent sports car for that kind of money. Or, according to Nvidia, you can have 12 mega pixel hi-def video, and a card (actually it's more like a series of cards) that will run every PC game due for release in the next century.

"According to Nvidia, a node can achieve up to 64x full scene anti-aliasing (FSAA), deliver a performance of up to 148 megapixels on 16 synchronized digital-output channels and eight HD SDI channels. The firm says that the fill rate reaches 80 billion pixels/s while the geometry performance is rated at seven billion vertices/s."

The cheapest model starts at $17,500, and it just goes up from there! When they're released in September, we'll probably give a few away. Or, maybe we'll buy a house instead!

The only problem with owning one of these cards is you'd need about 20 of the latest CPUs in order to feed it data quick enough that the CPU wouldn't become a massive bottleneck. Of course, they're designed for integrated graphics computers and engineers, not really gaming!

If anyone out there actually plans to purchase one of these suckas, we'd love to hear how many of your children you intend to sell in order to fund such a venture. Of course, we do not condone such things.

All I have to say is....I WANT ONE lol!

This is lame. Its not for gaming. Its not even for regular computers. Its for massive machines that are used for engineering or extreme computer graphics, and I mean extreme.

Will run every PC game due for release in the next century

According to Moore's Law that kind of power will be bog-standard in a decade or so. It's pretty insane to think what games will actually be like a century from now though.

Definitly the worst thing ever... like if regular players would waste that much of money instead of buying themselve a new computer with something like a ATi X1900 that would do the same...

Its most likely for companies, and doing animation and effects in movies, think of the graphics in movies...wont be able to tell the difference between reality and fantasy o.o!

Matrox has been making these super expensive video systems for awhile now... they got out of regular consumer stuff once their Millenium cards were done (Matrox was THE video card to have before NVidia and ATI were around).

Actualy to me this is pretty awsome i can't wait... im heading in 3D animation and seeing what we already have and what we can create with it is insane but now if we have somehting like that its gonna be insane..... special effects will never be the same.... honestly 18k$ isnt much when you think about it you can buy 16 GB of ram for that price.... and alot of people do spend the money for it.... i know i surely will one day soon.... maybe a gamer owuldnt spend the money on it becaus at this point its pointless but one day sooner or later the game graphics will go up bvut prices of these graphic cards will just go down becaus hte technology is more affordable..... but yeah i hope Dream Works has it when I work their one day

/Dream lol :P

And Pixar have their own render servers with their own configurations. No need of nVidia wanna-be graphic cards.
