Well, before I start, I'll give you the layout I'm working with: http://dylan.rainulf...youtpreview.gif

Now, I'm looking for how to slice this (if possible) so that I can edit the big white space (main content) so that it can support massive amounts of text without distorting the layout.

I had a look at the Slicing Guide, but found it not to be very helpful in this case.

It's as simple as that? I thought it was going to require lots of slicing. I'll get back to the forums tomorrow with my results.

he mentioned the slicing guide didn't help much.... anyway, from my eyes it looks like a big project to deal with cause you got semi-transparent content boxes and a gradient background, which could cause problems.. and i'm thinkin in xhtml/css stand point of view... i cant imagin trying to use a wysiwyg editor with this

Well, after some days I decided that the layout was simply too complex for me. I decided to go with a much simpler, cleaner, and easier to code layout.

If you'd like to have a look, just go to: http://dylan.rainulf.org/

If you have any suggestions, I wouldn't mind hearing them.

alright I will give it a go :P I may have to do some slight editing to the template to make it work but is should look close to the same.

by any chance do you have the PSD still? so then I can get the background

Thank you for taking you time to try and slice this layout!

I really do appreciate it. When if comes to me and Photoshop, it's a loving relationship. But, me and slicing hate eachother.

Cosmouse do you have a good knowledge of html. Because I had a very good knowledge of html before I started slicing and then I went out and taught myself to slice without tutorials. Since I had such a good knowledge of html it was easy. So maybe you should try beefing up on some html skills first because slicing is actually very easy. Plus I know hoot is slicing your first layout for you which is really generous but it will get very tedious for you if you are creating layouts all the time but can't code them on your own. I'm not trying to be negative just giving you an opinion. :D

Oh, trust me, that isn't my first layout. I know the fundamentals of HTML and the basics CSS, I've just never coded a layout like the one I made. Most of the layouts I make have a horizontal navigation, which makes them much easier to slice.

I'm not just jumping in to designing, I've been designing for the better part of 4 years now.

Well it's coming along very nicely. (I helped a bit  because Hoot is my brother) By the way I really like the look of it, it is very original.

before slicing it i would have made the nav slightly narrower so the nav and the content's width combined would be no wider than the header... just make the site look a lot tidier - it wouldn't require much slicing either tbh but i'd learn to put it together using css rather than tables.
