Is there a better program than dreamweaver for making tableless css websites? Dont get me wrong dw is great but it just doesnt seem to like css much and its a pain in the ass previewing it all the time in a browser because it doesnt display things properly in the actual program.

Sometimes there are differences with what you see in Dreamweaver verses the browser. When creating a fully CSS website I don't think it's up to the program to do a good job, it's really up to the designer/coder.

FYI...you can set up two different browsers to open from Dreamweaver (for example IE and FF). If you go to Edit > Preferences, there's a preview in browser option. I have F12 for IE and Control + F12 for FF.

To make it even easier, FF has an extension that allows you to see open IE from within FF. So you only need to open FF but can view both browsers!

I agree its up to the designer/coder to do a good job but the program is ment to save the designer/coder time and effort, when it comes to css I dont think dw is really that great at doing that but i guess thats just my opinion.

I disagree... I think Dreamweaver is by far much easier than notepad or Wordpad.

I'm guessing you're using Dreamweaver in "design mode?" If so, you should start using it in "code mode." "Design mode" is for beginners, and it doesn't render code properly (not to mention it produces messy code in the first place).

Dreamweavers code mode is bulky and just full of stuff you don't need. That's what i think anyway.

Try phpdesigner.

i usually design in dw in code mode, check compatability issues in ie and ff (and hope other browsers are ok) then when finished just tidy the code up... which in turn i guess doesnt save much time in the end but it helps if u're lazy like me lol

DW "bulky?" You must be talking about a completely different Dreamweaver, then.

Nope, wrong of you to assume. I have my own opinion, while dreamweaver is of course seen as the 'best' editor for professionals etc, i personally hate the damned thing. Also i personally find dreamweaver's code highlighting to be just about the most incomprehensible thing to me.

Matter of opinion, that is of course why this topic was started.

i use to use phpdesigner... but small little syntax highlighters bugged me to much so i had to get rid of it.

for now, dreamweaver is the best coding tool there is. Just remove all that "auto indent", "auto complete tags", "add end tags" extra stuff and it's fine. it they made some type of "dreamweaver light" that only had code mode, it'd be the best selling program out there!

Going to agree with Greg above.

I use Dreamweaver CS in code mode, don't even go near the design mode, and have gradually come to like it. Forced change from the powers that be from my previous use of Crimson Editor. Saves a lot of time imho.

YES! how do i remove the auto-indent thingy its annoying as shitand hard to read imo, normally i would just select the indented code and hit ctrl shift < a few times to align it back, buit id be much better if it wouldnt do the indenting at all
