Hey all,

Over the past few days I had been developing Scriptanic (www.scriptanic.com) - it was this project which prompted me to blog “php woes” the other day.
The development of the Scriptanic core took me about 3 days to finish. It was at this point that Scriptanic was functional (with all features that had originally been planned included.) At this point Scriptanic still not in the design which I had created for it.
The few days following the completion of the core (including today) was spent making the core of Scriptanic look like the design I had planned (to be completely fair this process took me a couple of hours), adding in new features that was requested by beta testers and ofcourse fixing bugs which were highlighted with some useability testing.

This is the first web service that I have developed. It has been through a lot of testing, tweaking and touch-ups and we’ve decided it is ready to unleash onto the world. Phase 2 is being planned already (however it won’t go live for a few months still) and we are taking user requests for new features or changes they would like to see.

Please go check out www.scriptanic.com and tell me what you like/dont like about:

a.) the functionality

b.) the design

Looking forward to your answers;
Thank you all

i dont really like the design there.
If you are trying to attract people, then make something that will attract their eyes, and thats design. It 2 plain as well.

You will soon come to realise design isn't just pictures. This site is designed to make text look good so I chose to keep most of the design text also.

The homepage may seem a bit busy but that's because the client wanted all these things on the homepage. I will however be discussing this with my client and probably removing the 10 Latest Transcripts from the middle.

its nice but very busy, and to be hinest you cant concentrate on the content just at large green fonts, so you are kida selling the font more than the content, so tone it down a little.

first of all, I think you need to organize better the stuff in your website, some features are a bit too big and the website gets "chocking". second, some text are too big and on the navigation at the left it loses contrast in the grey and green box (popular and latest)

I like the position of copyright and legal text.

The website can be awsome if you work more on it. And don't be shy to use things that people have already used.

@Spyder; the big green fonts is generally the contentyou must focus on on each page. On pages (like when viewing transcripts) the only big green text visible is the logo and "Add Transcript" however onceyou scroll below the Transcript Meta Header these are no longer visible and therefore unable to distract you.On page like the homepage - we used the big green text to attract attention to those parts we want you to look (glad to see it worked.) By the way, the homepage changes when you are logged in so that it no longer targets you as a new unregistered user (ie. it won't ask you if you are new and displays personalised information.)

@lostseed; We are tackling the 'busy' feel on the homepage. We want to make sure what's need is definately there but also want to cut back a bit.

@Myoto; The organisation of the site has been carefully planned out. The browse transcriptslist is always ther as well as the most popular and latest transcripts and the search. This is because our site can't really have information architecture because it thrives on user submitted materials - instead we make it easy to access the various methods we allow you to browse/search those user submitted materials. Othe rparts of the site navigation, like the user preferences will always be on the top bar. Finally thanks for the compliment on the position of the footer, I like it and am glad that I chose to keep it that way (I had my doubts about people complaining that it's not at the bottom.)

@ALL; We have done a few rounds of useability testing and after each round we would make adjustments and test again. The site structure at the moment is how it's going to stay because we found this is the way people like it and are most comfortable using it.

The second the page loaded it was like a bad cooking show, BAM! I felt that it was extremely busy and hard to navigate. I like the text, but I think there should be a bit more navigation (IE more of a distinct 'header' and 'navigation')

;)

it's pretty kool, very interactive face, however, i do have to agree it looks pretty busy, maybe 2 diff shades of green/grey for each row in the latest and most popular boxes would solve some of it... also the text styling is nice but the contrast between large and small fonts might be playing a factor in the bus appearance

Hey Davey

Anyway, we have just done an overhaulon the site. When it was originally design theclients said they wanted it to be optimised for 1024 *768, soon after launching we realised my teenagers (not webby ones, normal ones:P) use their parents' old computer and still run at 800*600. Therefore, same design, just the sidebar is smaller and we've cleaned it up to make things look a bit more organised :)

I don't know if any of you guys have registered but if you do could you please comment on the functionality of the site? I know first impressions are important but this site will be spread along by word of mouth....friends encouraging friends to join so I think functionality is more important at the moment.

It's still insanely busy. When I visit, I dont really know where to look and end up looking all over the place, not really finding the point to many pages. I would make a definite header, one that cant be confused with another block of text.

:D

Too busy. I don't like it. It's intimidating because there's too much going on.
