Try re booting your PC and see if that makes any difference, it should tell you what drivers you need just do a web search for them and download.

What does it tell you when you try to burn something? Do you get an error message missing dll files etc?
Have you tried going to the company site and downloading the driver files from there? Look at the papers you got with it when purchased something will tell you what brand it is, otherwise take the case off and take a peek.

Yes, I get an error message. It says please insert a recordable cd-r/cd-rw something to that effect. But now I just formatted my harddrive and have a linux os, Ubuntu. I am liking sof far except for a couple of problems.

The only thing that I can find close to a brand is CD-RW IDE1610
