Hey everyone,

Well me and a friend of mine are starting our own PSP/PS3 website: HERE There is nothing there since we are planning on starting when the second semester of school begins, we will both have more free time! :) Anyways I am using a CMS (Content Management System) called Joomla! Now they use templates which are plugged into a template manager and then the template is brought to site! My question though is not how to make themes for the CMS but how to make themes/templates generally!

Since it is about tech I always liked the colours grey-black and so on! But aside from that how would I start! I have used CS2 very little and I want to learn how to use it slowly maybe during this semester so that come next semester I can work on a theme! Can you guy tell me some good newbie theme making guidelines or tutorials? Thank you for any help!

unfortunatley you cant learn PS in a day, it is a very large and involved program. i have been using it for a very long time, on and off, and there are many things i am still learning that it can do. the best thing i can offer for advice is to sketch out what you want your site to look like. brows around for a bit and look at other sites, and get ideas. then get some books, they will teach you the basics of the tools and such, then just start doing tutorials, i learn so much from them, ill even look at one on a subject i know about because mabey they do it a different way, i always pick up a new way of doing something or to do something totally new. if you have a deadline mabey do something a little more basic until you learn more then along the way spruce it up a bit.

good luck

No I know CS2 takes a while to learn and I plan on studying it for a couple months doing a lot of tutorials! I was wondering though where to start, which tutorials to do first? There is so many options on pixel to life!

Well, if you like B/W try finding some tuts on how to creat metal, smooth metal etc...
You dont have to use metal interface necessarily, but its a good way to learn how those colors go together using just layer effects.
Like someone said, It is impossible to learn PS in a day but you must start somewhere ^_^

I agree with zoom. CS2 is still a pain in the ass for me but I started using it a long time ago as well. I just learned how to vexel like the skillful vexellers out there and I occassionally seek the advice of people.

Here are some tutorial sites that will help you (in reference to what NothingMan was saying):

http://www.good-tutorials.com
http://www.photoshopcafe.com
Even here on pixel2life

Good luck,
Cynthia

If your looking to create a techy looking website. Getting some skills using gradients is important I think. There are loads of tutorials around the web showing you how to design nice tech style layouts. I also find looking around at template sites getting ideas helps. ;) Good luck!
