I am trying to setup my home computer to be a server. I can connect locally but when I try to connect remotely it gives me this error:

The page cannot be displayed
------------------------------------------------------
Problem:
The system cannot communicate with server (my IP address).

Probable cause:
The Internet server (my IP address) may be temporarily or permanently down, may be busy, may not provide the service desired, or may be unreachable because of network connectivity problems.

Possible solutions:
Check the spelling of the Internet address
Try again later. Click Refresh to reload.
Go back to the previous page and try another link.

I have comcast internet service and i am using a modem from comcast. Is there any way to get around the gateway if thats what it is?

Your ISP may be blocking outbound use of port 80, if they are you will need to reconfigure apache to use a different port (e.g. 1234) :yoda: and then set up port forwarding ;) which should get it working for you ;)
