Has anyone had a reliable virtual machine running on Ubuntu?

On a different note I have a (gasp) Broadcom card and we all know Broadcom cards don't work (right out of the box) on a Linux computer, so how can I use WIFI using WEP encryption on my laptop? If you followed a guide and it worked for you please post it, if you just come across a link for a guide don't post it!

My WIFI card is Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g.

I've had my computer running on Ubuntu Linux before, of both the disk and through my hard drive, internet ran swiftly on both.
