Hello there.
I'm planning on buying a domain name from a local company, as that is easier for me in terms of payment method. The problem is, I don't know which one to choose because the companies that I am eyeing is not as popular as international ones like godaddy.com and namecheap.com.
So what do I look for when choosing a domain registrar? How do I know that the company is good?
Please note that I'm not planning to buy hosting along with the domain.
Thank you in advanced.

Mistake number one,
Never buy a domain with hosting, if the host goes under...so does your domain as they are unlikely to release it.

GoDaddy as well, those guys are great phone support is also excellant if needed and they even phone you to see if everything is ok. Been using them for yrs.
I'm currently with 4 registrars one I have as a reseller and when I disable it they all go back to the main registrar so they never expire.
One thing I have noticed though is because I'm in Canada, I keep getting letters from some company (haven't got a letter handy atm to give their name) telling me I have to pay $40 per .com for renewals
so if your in Canada don't be fooled by those people they grab your names from the main registry's

Matthew, I agree. For that reason I'm not buying hosting with my domain.
Adam and Donna, I've heard that godaddy.com is a pretty great host too. But I'm not planning to buy a domain internationally. I'm planning to buy from a company that is based in my country (which is not the USA, note).
So what I need is ways to tell if a registrar is good or not. How do I know whether the registrar is good or bad?
Thank you all the same
