Firstly, I am hoping that this topic is in the right place, if not then move it wherever necessary.

Hey all. Lately I've been thinking on ways of making Pixelation (my website) better, and a variety of things need to be asked and done before changes can be made. I am thinking of converting the resource side of things (which is the current focus now) to making it my own personal site, where I am the sole staff member and where I show my portfolio of what I do and such as well as creating it as a basis regarding architecture, which is what I want to do next year in university/as a career and a topic I am very much interested in all-round.

Which should I aim for, keeping it as a resource site or aiming for a more personal approach as well as including the architecture side of things?

I would really appreciate your feedback as it will help me make a decision in a short period of time, rather then have me ponder over it daily. Afterall, it's all up to you, the audience, to decide the future for any website and board/forum!

Thanks all and I hope to hear from you soon. If possible, I would like descriptive replies so that I know exactly what you are talking about rather then wasting space asking questions. PM's are also appreciated and I will contact you as soon as possible.

Thanks again! ^_^

I'd like to help but I don't understand what you're asking. Can you give a direct question?

I had the same dilemma with my own site (see sig). You'll notice I use it for tutorials as well as displaying my portfolio.

Just have two (or more) different sections. There's nothing wrong with having two completely different sections on a single site... People do this all the time with personal sites, because they may have different interests they'd like to pursue on their site but don't want to pay for two separate sites.

I have checked your site out and I like it, even if it's simple and contains no colour or images (apart from your cartoons). It looks as if you are interesed in architecture as well.

Anyways, back on topic. I have thought about having both sections for the site, however I was seeing if I should also add a board or just have the website. What is your opinion on that also?

Thanks for your replies also.

Yeah, but I'm studying naval architecture, which is different from regular architecture.

A message board? Skip it for now. Unless it's going to be very topic-specific, it will probably remain empty for a good while if you put it up right now. You need a lot of visitors to open one, because only about 1% of visitors actually participate in forums.

It is different in one way or another, but still all basically the same thing. ;)

Yes a message board, or a forum. That is a fair point. I guess I will just create a board/forum when a substantial amount of people actually request one to be made. Guestbooks/comments are good enough for the time-being I guess.

I have had experience with A LOT of forums before, and it actually is around 1% of registered members who post, unless you own a website like P2L. :P

Thanks for your positive feedback. Usually I get negative points posted and people saying that my site is inactive anyway (it is true but I am trying...) so yeah it's nice to see that there are patient people out there.

What else could you shoot my way? :)

Oh and also another point; I am open to receive some ideas for website names as well. I have a couple in mind but submissions of your own ideas are also greatly appreciated.

As said, it's you, the audience, who judges the future of any website. So you are the source which I am getting my ideas from, as well as incorporating mine into them.
