Doesn't really matter....jus ttry Maya of Max3d....they're the best ones probably....and there are lots of tutorials out there of them.

Maya, only if you're a rocket scientist, cos the GI (graphics Interface) isnt really what we tend to call user friendly :)

3DSMax is also rather specialized if you start out, but if you only use that one, you'll stick by it.

There are alternatives though, like cinema4D, Lightwave (also difficult), Carrara (cheaper and with lots of presets to get you started), etc...

I recommend you 3DS MAX. I begin with it,and in the begining
i do not know anything about 3D.But I understand it very fast
and just after 1-2 months I begin to make some very good models with it.
I never work with Maya or some of others 3d programs but I am happy
with the results that I have with MAX.If you want you can try and anothers if you have
this opportunity but I thing is not so importand the program you use.You just must have a wish
to make that and then just to learn. In the net have very much tutorials if you want to learn.
So the choice is your. :P

Carrara isnt as specialized as 3DSMax, or Maya,
But after a day of practise, you can make f.ex something like this in 15 mins:

It can also do animations etc...
