This is difficult to explain without pics.java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_17')

Picture this. A cylindrical object (with a flat base) photographed from a 45 degree angle ./ gives you an image with a curved bottom even though the cylinder itself has a flat bottom.

in order to achieve a realistic reflection a simple 'flip vert' will not work. The reflection does not follow the bottom of the object - there are gaps either side. in order to close the gap the reflected image needs to warp. In Photoshop cs2 there is a lovely effect in the Edit->Transform menu that lets you do this. But it does not exist in cs1.

Here is the agony...... i don't have cs2 and I need to echieve this effect. it would be possible with text 'flag effect' (or wave--whatever) but I can't seem to find an answer on how to do this with an image.

Please help. -

Even better.... Does there exist a cs1 plugin to allow me this feature? Or am I supposed to fork out wads of cash? :) java script:emoticon(';)',%20'smid_16')

effect is called 'warp image' in cs2

It's the same menu in CS --> edit transform > skew and rotate are the once you need to try and close the gap.
But, your right --> you have to do it manually, no magician plugin here sry.

Thanks, but I can't get that to work either. I can get the gap on one side to close but not the other. I even ried cutting the image in two. the problem looks like this........... _)(_ but horizontal.
It needs to look like this......... _))_ but horizontal.

I could do a screen grab, but seeing as I am nesw to the sight I don't know what the rules are and how to upload a pic.

Thanks for trying to help though. cool dragon by the way.

Most intriguing issue and especialy without the neaty warp. Hmm... Id say thet the distort<shear is your best bet on this one... Shears interface is kind of lame for accuracy but after some trial and error using the ctrl-alt-F hotkey to bring up the "Last used settings" you should manage with some time and effort. Just spin the canvas under "image" and then try to pussle together the reflection with the pictures bottom edge. If ill think of a better method ill let you know.

Edit: Okay iv done some experimenting with the method i described and the troubles iv run in to are the the top of the reflection and the text both become noticebly dissplaced and transformed, To overcome this i took the text and the top of the image clean of and made a standard verticalflip transformation with them on a new layer and matched them into the reflection picture. Tweaking can be done using the liquify filter if you have details that are to noticable after you apply the opacity decay mask to make the reflection.
