First off, thanks for even looking at this post. I've been lurking around this site for quite a while now, and really appreciate all the help you people give. Recently I've been trying to teach myself how to use CS2. I'm doing ok, but it's almost time to purchase a book. :P Anyway, my recent dilemma has been, trying to make the backgrounds of pictures disappear. What I mean is...how can I say it. Let me see if I can show it...

Thats the picture I've been working on. I want just the ring portion of it though. So when I post it on a web page, you see only the ring. As of now, it has a white, or off-white background. I've tried selecting the background color and removing it. But when I save it, it saves it with the background. I imagine it's a very simple fix, but any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I actually got it to work, but the process seemed overly long. I had to save it for the "web"? That got rid of the white background when I saved it, but now, the image has grainy edges. Does it have to be this hard. Is there an easier way?

1. Make sure the background is not a "background layer"
i mean with this: double click on it and the "backgroundlayer" (written in italic, meaning its locked and will never be transparant), will become an unlocked layer (standard called layer0, but off course you can change that)
2. Do exacly the same you did --> now you will see the the background disappear, and it will stay that way as long as you save in .psd format.
3. If you want to use it however: they're are only a few formats that accept transparancy: .png (ping format), i think is one of them. There is a certain gif format (89a ??? r something, ask the pros here, i dont use it) too ????

Think that's your problem, cos there isnt much of a background to delete here.
