The Burn Tool in PhotoshopCS2

I am pretty new to design so I'm doing a tut on making a parchment paper look,the problem I have is,it says
[ Now Select your burn tool from your tools pallete on the right.
It looks like a Human hand if your not familiar with it.
Ok, up at the top left of your screen set your Range to Shadows and then Select a nice large grunge brush.]
I know the tool looks like a human hand and when I select it it shows top left,
but there is nowhere I can see to set the range to shadows,
whatever that is ? COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!! :wacko: :wacko: T.I.A.

Cheers ,thanks a lot I was choosing the wrong tool, that's why i couldn't find it, your screenshot was a great help, thanks again. :mellow:
