Is consists of a lot of time, effort, and manual pixel moving. The best way to design these kinds of models in my opnion is to start with a few pictures of one (A side view, Front view, rear view, Top View, etc), and begin by using a Symmetry object + Cuber Object. Starting from these two, you can make the cube editable, and make cuts in the cube (Using the knife tool while in points mode) to create a good number of points for moving. After this, it just takes a ton of adjusting the points into the right spots to come up with the car shape.
I myself have never designs a model like a car. These models take A LOT of time. Not only would it take a lot of time to create, but if your trying to make a high quality model with many polygons, your going to probably need a computer with quite a bit of processiong power. You could avoid this by making a low polygon model, but your sacrificing the quality
I might do a Car tutorial for a lower polygon car sometime in the future. I should play around with it and see how much processing power it would take.
