I recently bought my wife a camera, and I was told by a professional photographer if you plan on going to school for photography to not bother with anything but a Digital SLR. If all you're going to do is take pics on your vacation and your friends Bday, then that camera will be fine. If you plan on doing some high-quality landscape stuff, or whatever, go for a D-SLR.

I might be wrong here, I'm no photographer, so someone else might be able to provide you with some more accurate info. Just passing on what I was told.

I have been playing the flute for 6 years now and I love it, and I am playing the pipe organ as well. I also like to teach other people the in and outs of software such as the CS3 suite from Adobe.

If you plan to go serious, a dSLR is the way to go but if you are on the other hand looking for a good "point-and-shoot" camera, that one is great, although I would suggest the S9500(9000 in the US) instead, since it is the upgrade and should be better I've heard.

I DO reccomend you get the one I got as it is a good upgrade for not much more. But if you possibly cant this is an awesome camera!
