I know P2L has one or two matrix code raining photoshop tutorials hanging around, however, what i've looked around for on the net is an animated version. There are particularly few, and not a tutorial i could find, i know one or two guys who've made them with After Effects and one in 3DS Max, and pretty successful versions, BUT the trouble being that they were completely manual; meaning, everything was done by hand, animated by hand, it's basically the long hard slog of creating everything and animating everything individually, and what you end up with is what you've got.

So, I thought i'd have a go at it myself, I'm an After Effects man, so that's what it's in. There were a couple of things i set out to accomplish in the process, which was namely to do it without any plug-ins; make a method that was clean and neat; make a method that was re-producable, i.e. didn't involve just playing around until it looks good, and not doing everything by hand or manually. So i'm quite happy with it so far, because i've accomplished all that.

So, this isn't exactly a finished result, not quite anyway, i'm open to criticism and ideas and that's what this is about. Having said that, I know it doesn't look perfectly like the original (my reference footage was the opening to Reloaded), but I haven't really tried to match it blow for blow, which some of the hardcore fans may not like, but they could just as easily change it themselves in the method, others i hope will appreciate the artistic license.

Since it doesn't seem that documented (in an animated version) i would put it into tutorial form, possibly video tutorial because it's quite a long process to type, if there's enough interest.

Anyway, enough talk, here's the link to where you can download the link

It's in quicktime, the link expires after so many downloads, so if necessary it can be re-uploaded.

Comments are welcome (hope this is more or less the appropriate place to post this)

:P

I think this thread is better of in the "general artworks" thread, this section is to ask for help in.

In any case im more a combustion man then AE and im not super at filmeffects and composing (yet, im working on it) I for one think the effect looks good and id love to see a tutorial on how it where made. But i cant speak out in technical terms out of my personal likeing of it im afraid. :P
