Who plans on getting Vista?

I'm going to try to get it when I get an extra harddrive (It'd be awesome to get one of those 750GB ones).

I will get the Ultimate version, too, which is why I'm getting another harddrive. Reason being?

[07:03:26PM] <Kelpie> •›› Drive Free ::: C:\ (SATAXPx64) 25.6GB/74.5GB ::: Fixed «
[07:03:27PM] <Kelpie> •›› Drive Free ::: E:\ (Backup) 34.3GB/51.9GB ::: Fixed «
[07:03:28PM] <Kelpie> •›› Drive Free ::: F:\ (ECH) 1.06GB/22.5GB ::: Fixed «
[07:03:29PM] <Kelpie> •›› Total Free ::: 61.1GB of 149GB «

I don't think that's enough space. Especially if I'm going to be rendering images as high as 9000x6000. Those take up over atleast 100mb.

And please be nice in this thread. I like opinions, but not the nasty kind. :P

:P OMG!! You freak!! lol :P You must be running the best of the best Alienware out there or something.

Anyway, getting back onto the topic: I don't think I need Vista right at this point in time, even though it does look pretty good. The reason being is because all the things that I use/do at the moment are running fine on my XP machine. There is no real need for me to change. However, apparently DirectX 10 is only going to be compatible with Vista which means I may have to get Vista for some of the upcoming game releases.

Other than that, I probably won't get Vista until all computer prices have dropped by half in retail and Vista comes around $100 on eBay :o

Nah, I dare not get alienware... Or rather now Dellianware. Dell is with them now. (Article right here)

Anyways, my computer isn't the greatest of the greatest, but it's good enough to get things done and far more then just done. My computer? (I got it when AMD processors went cheap)

Barebone

Since that's all I remember them having on Newegg, here's the specific specs all except on harddrive and soundcard: My Computer And my soundcard is a beautiful Audigy 2 ZS which puts out googoo for gaagaa crystal clear qaulity which can be extra specially heard with a good set of headphones, and buying them at wal-mart is not considered a good set. :P

Just for good input, don't get a computer with any kind of celeron or any kind of sempron processor, because they both don't run as good, they're just cheap processors to get those who are into doing emails and stuff, not for image editing or audio editing. :o

I tried out Vista on VMWare, it was nice, it had some features I really love, so I will get it.

I'm waiting a while to get Vista. Only because I think the upgrading from XP to Vista will be like being deserted on an iceberg and being saved by the Titanic.

Haha, yeah. Plus it's best to wait about six months after the release of an OS... Because of exploits and stuff that don't have any patches to and to just insure your security that much more. ;) But I just can't wait... And the idea of that doesn't really scare me, I've seen much worse. (*Ahem* Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Mellinium, a virus in the MBR of one of my harddrives, fried motherboard, demonic machines (My first computer turned on and offf and on and off really fast by itself one day, all I can say either it was the motherboard or the processor), a worm and a trojan on my mom's computer, a computer with a pentium which had Stopsign on it and about 12 different viruses that never ceased to work ever again when put into my hands, etc)

I'm going to buy Vista when it comes out. After Christmas I'm buying another gig of RAM and another video card(maybe). The video card will be DX10 compatible (whenever they come out). The Ultimate version of Vista looks good to me. Then in the summer I'm upgrading my AMD Athlon-64 3800+ to at least an X2 4800 :-)

=D I either want a dual core or a quad core. Those would be hot. :blink:

Ha...ha..this was actually laugh out loud funny. :blink:

Can you give more circumstances behind this? I've been working with PC's since 2000 and I've never come across a case like this, it sounds like it might be your motherboard at fault.

As for Vista, I don't really see all the negative press behind it, (other than an even more increased spec. usage in the case of memory and hard disk space) so I will upgrade (legally) in a few months. I wish that MS would put more effort into actually making their OS's less buggy and cut down on the reliance of patches, but that would be in a more perfect world.

Actually it was an old gateway I don't know very much about it since I didn't know much about computers. I got it when I was 13 and it lasted about a year, but it's older than 2001. It had a pentium II 300mhz, 192mb of ram, 8mb vram video card, 4GB harddrive, soundblaster PCI 64. It had windows 98 on it. It turned off once, so I turn it back on, then it shuts off again, so I turn it back on and since I wasn't so bright about computers I thought it was a virus so I used a virusscanner it shuts off again half way through the scan. I turn it on again and it turns on and off and on and off really fast, I try pressing the power button and it shuts off but soon it turns on and off and on and off again by itself, so at this point I had to unplug it to turn it off. This was deffinately random, but everything except the motherboard and the processor went to another old gateway with a 400mhz machine. :o

hold the phone! don't get any new processors yet.
just you wait.
AMD will get smart
imagine a quad core 3.0ghz processor with HT (hyper-threading technology)

It will take awhile before I ever get one. Since my motherboard doesn't like the idea of overclocking I'm just going to build from the ground up again. Plus the Pentium 4 takes more CPU load better then this one does. Because I know so working in Fruity Loops Studio.

that may be true, but you can almost guarantee that the processors will be 1k+ at the launch and i know i dont wana spend that much =X on a chip the size of a quarter
but it will be sweet to check out

Oh... my bad :) I was thinking about Kellogg's Fruit Loops cereal. But, of course, not everyone in this world lives in Australia now, do they? lol :D

Maybe a little too new?

That can happen sometimes.

I dont care about Vista all that much.

Im thinking about going Mac ...

But, for now I will stay with trusty (ha!) Windows XP..

When i buy my next PC it might be a Mac or i might buy parts and build my own and have Vista.

I kind of don't trust macs. Especially since they're becoming popular, if you wait, you'll see they'll have just as many viruses and bugs, etc as Windows. The only reason you never hear about them is because it, until now, wasn't as popularly used as Windows is. But once it becomes popular - It too will have bugs. Linux would be the same way, and I trust Linux a lot more then a mac. It's a coincidence, once a product is popular it becomes a target. I wouldn't say Windows XP is as buggy, because it can be the hardware and not the software or it can be a combination of both. Like for instance did you know the yahoo toolbar is a rootkit? It has as about as much access to your computer as a driver does. Plus I think it will be cheaper for you to go the route of building a PC, you just have to know the best deals and know what to get. I know when I tried building a "Dream" PC, my boyfriend outdid me and had a better one a lot cheaper. And don't forget intel is hard to build with. ;)

I must add Windows has been a lot more popular for the longest then macs, so it may even take as long as Windows does for Macs to have problems discovered.

I can't agree more with you. Yes, MAC is powerful, but if it was so good, how can we explain that less than 15% of the computer market is owned by MAC?
