Well, about 11 months ago I bought a hosting package with MD Webhosting (http://www.mdwebhosting.com.au) and I havent really had any problems with it. Now though, its been down for a full 24 hours, and I can't even access the actual site to see the problem, since thats down aswell. I did a good old fashioned google search, and I came across a number of sites and forums discussing bad problems and overall inconvenience of the web hosting service. One forum had 5 full pages of bad things about the site. My question is this. Should I stay with the web host which I personally never had much trouble with (not to mention the cheapness of it), or should I switch to another host?

I'm guessing a lot of you will answer, 'switch to another host', but it costs more money. Only answer that if I actually need to switch, and not just for the hell of it. And if you do answer that I need to switch, it would be much appreciated if you could provide links to reliable and affordable Australian web hosting companies.

Thanks in advanced.
Ben.

I am not sure whether you should switch or stay, as you have had no problems with this but they have been down for 24 hours (however, I'm sure there is an explanation). I use a free post-to-host webhost, meaning you post in their forum, get points, and use those points to pay for your hosting each month.

I am a Moderator on it, and I am fair to say it is the best and CHEAPEST host to use. Afterall, it is for free.

Well, I've found out that it was firstly something to do with the firewall, I didn't find much information on that, but now I read that it is their connection to their ISP. The host has gone haywire, and I don't think it will be fixed shortly. It sounds pretty bad, I mean you can't access ANYTHING. I can't get into my control panel or anything. That raises a problem seeing as how am I going to change hosting and take my domain(s) across.

Anyway, I dont really like those post-to-host sites. I mean, I like their hosting, but is there an option of paying?

Thanks for the response.
Ben.

There is an option of paying. The free post-to-host website is www.theicy.net, however it is now owned by www.namesweserve.net. I am not sure on the prices so you will have to do that research on your own by viewing that website.

If you are interested in the post-to-host webhost in the future, just be known that each post gets you 10 points, and the smallest hosting package is a Blog package. You can only host a blog on it. The smallest website package is the Bronze package, which requires 100 points per month. Very cheap and only requires 10 posts a month. Quite a good deal if you ask me. ^_^

Yeah, that sounds pretty good, but I actually found an amazing deal on www.site5.com. 5 bucks a month for 55 gigs of space, and 5 terra's of bandwidth. Yeah, I know, its not australian, but still I think its too good an offer to pass up.
Thanks for the help, I have bookmarked theicy, since that is also a really good hosting site aswell.

Ok that is completely fine. Great deal you got there, hopefully there aren't any catches!

TheIcy will always welcome you, so if your new host doesn't do what it says, then come to us and we'll cater to your needs.

For a begginer site I'd recomend Awardspace.
If your making more complicated stuff..
Well let's face it I don't know anything about complicated stuff.
