A few weeks ago I turned on my Powerbook G4 only to be greeted with a "Some applications may not perform correctly because date is set to a day before march 1st, 2001." So I was like 'huh?' and looked at the date and it sayed December 30 (or 31st im cant remember) 1969!! So I called my brother up (he's much more experienced with macs as this laptop was originally his) and he said that it was some sort of harddrive default date or something (i can't remember exactly how he worded it) and he said i needed to save all of my documents to disks and reinstall OSX. My brother will be sending me a copy of OSX so I can do this, but do I really need to, or do i just need to change the date? Other then safari constanly asking me to verify website's certificates, which I know is only because it doesn't understand the date on them, everything seems to be working properly.
Anyone know anything about this problem?
All help is very appreciated..

I don't use a Mac nor know the system but on a PC you just reset the date and time if it happens again could be your battery on the way out

I don't like macs, but if I had that problem with my PC, I would replace the battery on the motherboard (The only battery on the motherboard), because if that is dieing or died, dates and time tend to get really screwy.
I actually had that happen before on one of my old boxes. xD
I just remember what it's called, it's a CMOS battery, and apparently macs have them too. (My boyfriend hates them too, but I was like I DIDN'T KNOW THAT MACS HAD CMOS BATTERIES and he was like no they stored their bios information magically!)
