Your desktop background comes to life with Windows DreamScene™. When you download this Ultimate Extra, you can select a video for your desktop background the same way you select a stationary picture. You can choose one of the high-quality looping videos that we’ve included, or use a video from a company that produces content for DreamScene. You can even use your own video as a background.

If you’re wondering what effect a video background might have on your battery life, don’t worry. Windows DreamScene respects your power settings and pauses the video to conserve battery power.

Some things that you should know before you start using Windows DreamScene:

* Windows DreamScene supports only .mpeg and .wmv video file formats.
* Windows DreamScene video support requires a graphics card that supports Windows Aero™.

For computers that do not support the Windows Aero desktop experience, this Extra still has something to offer: Windows DreamScene adds new positioning options for backgrounds, including stationary pictures.

I'm definitely upgrading to Vista Ultimate lol... check the movie! And it's all running on the GFX Card... no usage of CPU or RAM.

You'd be surprised... not mentioning any names

But yeah, it does seem a bit pointless, but cool, nonetheless!

You know you can make your desktop image a movie already. I'd explain, but, you know...

Why would you need that? Besides you can do that in windows XP using VLC (videolan player) Videolan.org. Open any video in the player, rightklick on it and press wallpaper...

But I'm not sure that this will run without using the CPU... what's interesting about DreamScene is that it's completely independent and runs only on the GFX Card.

Dell and most other PC suppliers are doing the same type of deals. Free or cheap upgrade to vista, you usually need to buy a Media Center PC to get an upgrade to Vista ultimate.

Darn!!! AND I WANTED A FREE VERSION OF VISTA :'(

Hmm... anyway, I still think it's a waste of time, what Microsoft have come up with (DreamScene and all).

I'm going to upgrade to Vista Ultimate in July when it has been patched up. That is also my B-day and I don't want to spend 300 bucks right now lol. However, I won't be using this feature b/c I'm sure it takes up plenty of system resources like macOSX does with its fancy graphic useless doo-dads.
