I got this thing in photoshop I made. It's kind of a alien of some kind "one colored" that is transparent. Can I somehow import this image to 3D Max then like use the modifyer "Extrude"? So it goes 3d?

Can you attach a preview of your image, theres a couple of different ways of doing it but it depends on the shape.

Pretty easy, if you've drawn the shapes with the pen tool, export to .AI (illustrator) and then import that into MAX. This will create an outline of the shape, you then extrude it.
If it wasnt originaly drawn with the pen tool, redraw the shapes creating a vector layer then export.

It just says "Improper file format".

Make sure your only exporting the shape layers and hide the others; also deactivate layer styles.
I have Cinema 4D and tested it and it works fine, its possible Max prefers .EPS file formats.
Have a play or search google about importing ai/eps files into Max.

Btw, does it matter if I export the .AI from Photoshop or Adobe Illustraitor?

I'm not sure, its worth a go.
If you export from Illustrator you get more options on what version of .AI you can export, try exporting as an older version.

when exporting .ai files never go beyond Illustrator 8, try even to keep it in Illustrator 3 or 5 format, works best.
