Hey there everyone, yet again I am here to ask the community some questions, request various opinions and whatever else you would like to offer me in regards to reseller hosting.

Lately I have been speaking with an online friend regarding opening our own hosting website, using this reseller option. We are unsure of specific details at this early stage however we want to provide a great and reliable service to the online community and we both feel that this would be a good idea to further increase our online experience as well as establishing a friendly and professional service to our customers. We will have setup and monthly fees in place, however they will be affordable and extremely cheap in comparison with other hosting companies/reseller hosting websites. On top of that, we are not looking to make great profits out of this; enough income to keep the website going and to pay for the reseller hosting each month would be of great appreciation.

More to the point of this topic, I want to ask specific questions in regards to reseller hosting. Is it a good business to get into (short or long term)? If we are dedicated to hosting and dealing with customers, would it be a good idea to set up? What are ALL the costs involved apart from the monthly cost of the parent host? What would you propose in regards to the setting up of it all; there will be a website forsure, would you recommend a forum or blog set up? Would you recommend me setting up a team rather then have two people on the team setting it all up and managing everything (take into account time, availability, real life issues such as university/school, etc)? Also, out of all hosting websites, which would be the best and why?

If you would like to offer anymore information then please let me know. I would like to hear from you all as soon as possible. This is something that I have been interested in doing for a while and I think I am at the age and experience of putting my ideas and thoughts into practice.

Thanks! :P

Can anyone provide me with some opinions, suggestions or critique? I have posted this same topic on another forum and haven't gotten many replies so I was hoping to get some more from P2L...

Thanks! :P

Hi, I like godaddy for a hosting provider. If you ended up getting your own servers it's a very expensive business to start up. If you do a reseller like you said most places take care of the technical details, unlike if you had your own servers you would need to hire sys admin workers.

goodluck

I didn't have time to fully read your post, nor do i know where else you have asked for help. But i know that webhostingtalk is the place to go for every bit of hosting advice you could want. I will warn you though, make sure you read their rules and search the forums before doing anything. They are strict and don't take kindly to uber-noob/repeat questions (not saying this is one of those questions, i'm just saying it would be wise to find out what their definition of those kinds of questions are before asking).

@eConcept Media:That's the whole reason why my friend and I wanted to choose a reseller, the time and problems that would occur with servers would eat up all of our time. I think it's only those who are actually trying to make a business out of it would have their own servers. And also as you said, it is quite expensive if you're new to the game.

@rc69: That is completely fine and thanks for letting me know about that website. I have not registered yet as I have the same topic written on another popular forum called The Admin Zone; so far it is going well and I am getting some very good opinions and such that I am looking for to make my decision. I will check out WebhostingTalk if my answers aren't answered either here on P2L or TAZ. Thanks for your assistance, all the staff here do a wonderful job. :(

Here's an idea. Go visit MEDIATEMPLE.net and check out their options. they let you resell your space as you choose as long as you provide your own support and billing methods. Also, HOSTGATOR.com, GATE.com, NETFIRMS.com.

I hope that helps you some.
