Welcome to P2L

To make this effect, just follow this tutorial : http://www.phazongra...opic.php?t=2394

Hope this is of some help!

Some steps near to the end can be missed if you only want a glass effect at the top of the orb

It's actually pretty easy. Just fill in a circle behind the orb with a linear gradient.

For example:

This was pretty rough and quick, but if you pick the right colors to go with your background and a little tweaking you can get a cool effect.

Couldn't you just use a Bevel/Emboss? ;)

You could use an Outer Bevel to get a similar effect, it's all a matter of how it looks behind your interior orb. If you use the Outer Bevel you should play around with the Gloss Contour settings to get some cool effects.

There are always many ways to do anything in Photoshop (which is one of the best things about it), so it all depends on how it looks with what you're working on.
