Hi, I thought I followed flash 8's help info for embedding fonts until I had to reload my computer to find the edwardian font
wasn't available due to reloading pc w/out the font. If I embedded it correctly it wouldn't of mattered, yet when I use the "embed" button down in flashes properties box, it pops up option box to select options for the currently selected text boxes I assign it to. I choose all characters for some text boxes and the other options for other text boxes.
I guess my main question is why isn't the embed button/option pop up embedding it, and should the font file itself be seen in the library panel when it is actually embedded?
Many thanks,
ChAnGeR

If the font in the fla is embedded, but you dont have that font on your computer, you wont have access to the font. The FLA does not actually contain the font that you can use in windows, so if you format your computer and lose your fonts, you wont have the font in the fla anymore. Just a named placeholder for it, but it should ask you to substitute the font.

Thanks, I did re-assign a font, yet when I refound the original for the substitute temp one, I had to manually go thru all buttons and such to timely add the original font, grrr. Is there no option or work around, cuz for some reason on other tut' site .fla examples I seen font pict's in the library, or at least I thought!
Take care, and thnxz again.

You can add a font into the library, but I still dont think that would fix your problem. Adobe would probably get into a fair bit of legal trouble if they allowed distribution of fonts through Flash.
If you click the top right corner of your library, itll have a drop down that lets you create a new Font Library item.

Hey Pax, thank you very much for taking the time to reply, that was great!!!!!!!!!
I took the inititive to retry my search soooo...
I went through the flash manual internally and the following I cut and pasted and I will be using the info to link to the font on my host address after I later upload the edwardian or various fontz in the future....
"Creating font symbols
To use a font as a shared library item, you can create a font symbol in the Library panel. You then assign the symbol an identifier string and a URL where the document containing the font symbol will be posted. In this way, you can link to the font and use it in a Flash application.
NOTE
When using font symbols for dynamic or input text, you must also embed the font outline information. See Setting dynamic and input text options.
For information on linking to a shared font symbol from other documents, see Using shared library assets."
Thanks again, take care!
