Ok where are you all!
Being absolutely fed up with windows I am toying with the idea of going to Linux while I save for my Mac.
At the moment I am downloading Fedora 6, anyone got any good suggestions on other distros?

Fedora is good, except that it I never could get it installed. Seemed like it was too big for my computer or something, much like everything else Red Hat related.
I've always liked and used Slackware. it's fairly plain jane though. doesn't walk you through a lot of setup options, just basic stuff, setup root password and copies the OS to the computer.

Ubuntu. I used fedora on one of my old servers, but I'd say ubuntu is the best bet for a switcher, that's the distro I really like at the moment. It's really user friendly and there are a lot of guides on ubuntu out on the net.

Ok ta guys. I have used Slackware before I gotta say that would be the closest to UNIX from what I have seen read and heard. Also it installs all the libs needed as well for compiling. Ubuntu I have also seen and not really keen on that one. I know it is a good distro since it is based on Debian, but something about it bugs me.. not sure what though.. just does.
I heard the fedora was a desktop version of redhat without much of the un-needed redhat crap.. so for now that wins so far. Have also considered FreeBSD and SuSE, but SuSE for some reason shat itself half way through the install. As for the latest Mandrake (or what ever they call it now) puke chunder chuck. No thanks

I'm currently using Fedora 6 on my other partition of the disk and it's great, in the older days you had to fiddle in the terminal for every little thing, now your just one click away from setting up your server or desktop enviorment.
Before I installed Fedora I've also tried Ubuntu 6.06 wich was great and also tried Kubuntu wich I didn't like very much (not a KDE fan) but Ubuntu worked great, easy to install and easy to use same as Fedora, if I would recommend anything it's Ubuntu or Fedora 6 their bouth great systems and you can play around with the 3D desktop hehe lovin that shit
