Windows Vista
Interface
  • Still confusing to navigate, but in new and different ways. Some Control Panel apps contain useful new settings, but many are unchanged from XP and lurk in new locations.
  • Transparency, animations, and other effects provide helpful visual cues about files and programs.
  • Flip 3D program swithcing lets you scroll through a three-dimensional animation of all your running apps.
  • Systemwide search and indexing finds files, programs, and Web pages on or beyond your PC's hard disk.
Security
  • Improves on XP's security with User Access Control and ActiveX tweaks, but remains a major malware target.
  • Still requires a third-party bidirectional firewall, since its own firewall settings for outgoing connections are for experts only.
  • Includes Windows XP's file-and Folder-Level encryption options. The Business and Ultimate Editions' industrial strength Bitlocker encryption protects your entire hard disk from tampering
Software
  • Includes enhanced versions of Media Player, Media Center (EXCEPT IN BUSINESS EDITION), Movie Maker, plus new mail, calender, and DVD authoring tools.
  • Won't run 16-buit apps and some 32-bit utilities written for XP. Otherwise, it runs most existing Windows software.
  • Current game performance is particulary slow compared with XP, perhaps due to still-buggy drivers.
  • DirectX 10 promises a dramatic boost to 3D gaming when supporting hardware is more widely available.
Hardware price/performance
  • Requires significantly more memory and hard-disk space, and runs slower than XP on the same Hardware
  • Minimum system requirements are an 800-MHz processor, 512MB of memory, and 15GB of free disk space.
  • The aero interface works best with recent graphics accelerators and some requires an additional 512MB of RAM.
  • The sometimes difficult upgrade process means you're better off buying a new PC with Vista preinstalled.
Virtualization
  • Some capabilities as Windows XP, but higher memory requirements could either reduce performance or prevent Vista from serving as a host or guest OS on systems where RAM is tight.
  • License prohibits running anything but the expensive Enterprise or Ultimate Editions under Virtulization software like Parallels or VMWare.
Bottom Line
Get it if you're buying a new PC; XP users, though, have few urgent reasons to upgrade. Windows Vista's interface is alive compared with XP's relatively flat scheme, an innovation that could get you more excited about your daily computing task. Vista also includes some useful new tools and is safer to take for a spin around the Internet. Does that justify the hefty upgrade price and even more costly hardware rquirements? Probly not, but if it's time to buy a new computer anyway, you won't be tempted to reinstall Windows XP.

I thought this would be a little helpful to some people.

correction, its a vista and xp thread, it says not completed, learn to READ!! Why do some of you users have to be so Rude to new people. It be nice if for once someone could say something like oh thanks for taking time to post that article, it may be helpful to someone. But instead you criticize them or bash them. Read the rules, if you don't have anything nice to say then don't post a reply!

No one is being rude to you, but you've copied an article from PC World word to word and made out to us as if you wrote it with more coming soon and no respect for copyrights or even giving credit to the site. You can't just take whatever you want read their terms of use.

I'm sorry, i was in a hurry and meant to put the citation, I did not mean to take credit for someone else work. My intention was to show some people the close up specs of Vista, i never finished it, which at the end was where the source was being placed. I'm sorry I made a mistake. And im sorry for posting that unacceptable reply, i just got really annoyed. You know. Anyways forgive me. ;)

I copy articles, but I always put a link to the source.

Sometimes I just put half/parts of the story then a link to the source.

Im guessing you put the "Source: PCWorld" in after you were caught ? lol

Im sticking with XP for now anyway, more compatiable..

When it comes to the time where it's VITAL that I need to get Vista, then I will :D

Based on the fact that he put "I'll finish this article later", he definitely made it look like he was trying to say he wrote this. That's what I was laughing about.

Next time link to the article and give a blurb about the article. Quoting it word for word and not showing your source is nothing short of asking for it.

We don't delete accounts, and unfortunately majority of forums/members will correct you if you post others work as your own just get over it and accept you was corrected it's better to learn now instead of getting sued etc.
