Hi there
I actually got the German edition of C4d but I try to explain it in English

situation:
I modelled a city, created a nice sky texture and laid it over a sky object.
now to make the whole thing a bit more realistic I want to create some fog on the horizon (otherwise the horizon looks bloody bad), so that the buildings very far away from the camera position become blurry. Sure with the environment object you can create a nice fog, that is actually what I want, BUT i want to concentrate this environment fog only on the ground (that building in far distance disappear) not to cover my lovely sky!

see the problem?

I'd be too glad if you could help me out!

cheers

I would either go with another Floor object with a fog like semi transperent texture or a cube or flat square polygon object at an angle perpendicular to the floor in the distance with the same type of material applied to it.. sort of like a "wall" of fog get it? hope this helps..

yeah that would work but the problem is that you can see the very sharp border which doesnt look nice...

Use a Pyrocluster objet on a huge box on the floor. Be prepared for some long render time though, but it will produce a really realistic fog effect and volumetric as well.

yup, im not a c4d user but environmental effects tend to kill render times. have you thought of using photoshop to do it?

photoshop doesnt help since it is going to be a movie...
i guess i'll take the glow method... you know a city with textures takes enough render time:)

thank you guys

cheers

ah by the way...
you can create a blur with the camera object (focusing on 1000m for instance).
is it possible to exclude certain objects from this blur?

still the same... i want to horizon to become blurry but not the sky object!
so is there a tag or stuff like that?

thanks

Isnt there a DOF option in the render for C4D (not really a user myself, but thats how i do it to mask the fog borders.

as to the blur problem, i 'think' but im not sure that you can add a motion blur tag to the sky object and set it to 0%, not sure if this will work
