Hi everyone!

heres a link to my site (note my site is currently a blog right now on the home page, all the other links won't work. I want to finalize the design before continuing with other pages).
http://www.newmedia.....uk/jecgardner/

My site lacks identity and I was wondering how to improve the design?

I was hoping if anyone can see how to enhance my sites design!?
Nothing is set in concrete and if anyone can see something that would work please let me know!

I made a mock up in photoshop of how I think my site could look better but I dont like the style because its used so much.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks!

how can the menu be more ehanced? I might beable to round the corners off like the effect when you roll over the WORK link in the mini menu a speechbubble pops up with rounded corners

Hey how2!

I had a look at the design, and I have to agree with Matheus for the need of colour. Your site looks very bland, but I think what it's definitely lacking is, as you say, an identity.

Although the changes you made do look fancy, I think it still doesn't bring out your site's identity to the point where it looks like it suits the site's purpose and reasoning to be there. I think that you could still stick to the colour scheme you have (which I can easily say is greyscale), but add some more artistic flare to everything to give it a nice look and feel. I'll try and see if I can whip up a quick design that you can look at - or even take for yourself - just to help you understand what I mean. ^_^

Just to try and help me, and possibly others, suggest more pointers to make the web site more enjoyable and have more life and vibrance to it, I was just wondering what the purpose of the site is? Is it just going to be a personal blog-type site? Or will it be leaning more towards a personal/portfolio-type site?

The link Matheus provided seems to be very worthwhile, so the only real suggestion I can offer at this stage is to look through that Web Creme site for inspiration, get some ideas going around and see how it turns out. I have actually been trying to design a personal web site for myself in my own time as well, but since I'm not at home at this point in time, I'll look at sending my concepts to you when I get home, just to see if you can see anything you like and can try implementing it on your site. ;)

wow that sounds great shameless_w_o_a_d!

I should of put the purpose of my site in the thread title. This is a portfolio site for my web developments!

I'd really like to see your design concepts! I enjoy coding web site's and I really need help with the design! If you have a suitable design then I'd love to convert your concept into the code!

My design is still very basic. I have been saving snippets of images that I think I can use in my design mock up. For example I saw this image below and I think I could incorporate it into my sites borders somehow.
