Hey how2!
I had a look at the design, and I have to agree with Matheus for the need of colour. Your site looks very bland, but I think what it's definitely lacking is, as you say, an identity.
Although the changes you made do look fancy, I think it still doesn't bring out your site's identity to the point where it looks like it suits the site's purpose and reasoning to be there. I think that you could still stick to the colour scheme you have (which I can easily say is greyscale), but add some more artistic flare to everything to give it a nice look and feel. I'll try and see if I can whip up a quick design that you can look at - or even take for yourself - just to help you understand what I mean.
Just to try and help me, and possibly others, suggest more pointers to make the web site more enjoyable and have more life and vibrance to it, I was just wondering what the purpose of the site is? Is it just going to be a personal blog-type site? Or will it be leaning more towards a personal/portfolio-type site?
The link Matheus provided seems to be very worthwhile, so the only real suggestion I can offer at this stage is to look through that Web Creme site for inspiration, get some ideas going around and see how it turns out. I have actually been trying to design a personal web site for myself in my own time as well, but since I'm not at home at this point in time, I'll look at sending my concepts to you when I get home, just to see if you can see anything you like and can try implementing it on your site.
