Hi guys, well I have been designing in PS for the last year and a half, and I know realise that as a designer it helps if you know how to code aswell as design.

I was wondering if anyone can help me and possibly teach me how to code. I have listed the software I have below.

Macromedia dreamweaver 8

Macromedia Flash Pro 8

Macromedia Coldfusion

Adobe Photoshop CS2

Adobe Flex2

I don't want to sound lazy, because that is one thing I sure ain't, but I have been trying and trying to learn this for about 3 months and I can't even grasp the basics. I just need some advice and a point in the right direction, i.e Linking CSS with HTML and understanding the elements.

Thanks for your help.

Well there are a lot of tutorials out there that can help you get started.

Assuming you know how to slice a layout in Photoshop and export it for Dreamweaver edit.

A great source would be to check out the tutorials that mickm has to offer, they do have a layout tutorial + slicing

http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/count/...our_new_layout/

Or you got

http://www.pixel2life.com/tutorials/count/...nto_div_format/

Your best bet would just to look through pixel2life and search on google, etc.

http://www.pagetutor...utor/index.html <-- Best place to learn html i have ever seen. It's what got me started

For CSS, i would guess that w3schools would be a good place to start. I say guess because i honestly don't know of any specifically good sites to help you learn. I learnt through messing around with dreamweavers style pane... don't ask how that worked, it just did...

I would recommend ditching all of your software and just use dreamweaver's code view. Maybe mess around with adding something in the design view and see how it affected the code, but only if you're stuck on something. WYSIWYG editors usually spit out crap code (that includes dreamweaver). Another good tip i heard when i was starting was just look at code. Find some site that displays something like how you want, find it in the source and see what they did. Then try it yourself. I honestly never took that advice whole heartedly, but it payed off every once in a while.

And if you want to learn PHP, i hope you are good at Math, preferably on the level of Algebra2 or above :D
Then start simple. A CMS is not something to use as a learning tool. A shoutbox and simple include system however, is.
