I'm currently working on a layout for my new site. But I still think it misses something, even if it's just the finetuning. So I wanted to show you guys my layout and get some suggestion before I start making a website out of it.
What do you think?

Normal version:

Attached File  layout.jpg   295.27KB   119 downloads

Rollover version:

Attached File  layout.jpg   305.59KB   92 downloads

@the big white space: This is where the text will go. I haven't put some samples in, because I'm gonna do it in Dreamweaver and not in Photoshop. But I want to keep it very simple. No boxes or anything. And the text colours will go with my colur scheme (look at the navigation, to see my colour scheme). So I'll probably make a dark grey text and use pink and/or dark blue for the headings and so on.
Maybe I'm gonna put in a few icons, too.

P.S.: I haven't watermarked it, so please don't edit the imag or use it for youself.

Ditto!

It's looking really really nice, mate! The only thing I would change, in the rollover one in the links, is that background image - it ruins the text, IMO - so maybe put the opacity down on them?

??? Why? Excuse I'm a coding n00b. But can't you simply set it as background image?

Yeah, this was just a quick idea, I'm probably gonna remove that.

Edit:
Hmm, just toned it down. First post updated.

Background doesnt seem to be much of a problem. Either make the lightrays a tranparent PNG-24 and overlay it on a matt hex background or go for the high bandwidth option and just save it as a PNG and put it as the background. The white box can be sliced up and coded with DIVs.

Sry, to ask. But how do you mean "it can be coded with DIVs". Is this some html or css thing?
I guess I have to look it up.

Edit: Ahh, I already found out. This seems to be a good options, but I first have to read few tutorials to find out if I can make it^^.

Ohh, and more comments on the design, please.

Whatever you do make sure you dont write it in tables. Among other things it gives everyone a right to throw things at you ^_^

W3Schools is good for learning how to code html/css, the divs and other html will ofrm the site structure and the CSS will provide the styling.

I think you have to use photoshop cause you have to cut the image into pieces using slicing tool and then use css to groove it up into your html , prefer CSS2 (use div ) rather than tables.

just cut the 4 edges of the curl white background and repeat the rest of the background and for navigation just use 2 images for the nav on original and another hover.

BG images need to tile. So just saving just as an image it ain't gunna title very nice. I use a 24" monitor and so what size you intend on making that bg? 2000x1400? BGs need to title and tile seamlessly to work properly.

Well, but he still has a point, since I don't think that this would looks so great. I probably need a new bg, or I put a mask over the whole image and let it fade out into a simple background color. That'd probably work.

Edit: Okay, I tried that, and I think it looks even better than before(Edit: but maybe a bit empty):

i like it. it looks nice and professional. background shouldn't be a problem really.. except to dial up users. though i'm sure you'll sort that out. i'm not a huge fan of your logo though, but that's just me. and simple spelling mistakes aren't good...

Was Ist ForFreeDesigns?

Ahh, look at this:

It looks perfectly fine in Dreamweaver, but why is it so strange in FF?

Have you thougth about making it liquid. Chopping the sides off as well so it will stretch sideways and fill the screen?
