Do themes take your ram or more processing power? or both?

I currently just stuck a gig of ram into my notebook that's running xp and wanted to get window blinds or stylexp to look like a mac since I love the mac look XD.

But with a 1.7 processor I really question whether to add anything that will slow it down.

Also out of window blinds and stylexp which is better? or what is better than them.

lol another question for a side note, has anyone had an issue of sticking a gig of ram into an notebook that has 512 already and it show up as 896 XD. Anyway I know 128 is dedicated to my videocard but that doesn't make up for a whole 1500 gigs of ram :(.

Help appreciated.

I ran windows blinds on my old P4 1.4ghz (I think) with either a gig or 512 mb of ram and it didn't have any problem doing so. I never remember the themes being much of a resource hog.

If you download themes from deviant art

http://www.tech-reci...s_tips1088.html

Do those directions, after you do them, restart, then goto deviant art resources > themes and download which ever you want :D Thats what I do, no added software or anything ^^

Here's how those programs work.

In your Windows folder, under system32, you will find a uxtheme.dll file. That file basically handles all of your theme stuff. There is a patch out there some where that will modify the file a little bit (i believe they said it was only like 3 lines of code) and it will allow you to natively use different styles, no additional programs needed. Of course, if you read bluemage's link, you would have picked up on most of this.

So, how windows blinds and sytlexp work is, rather than patching the file permanantly, they will simply change it when it gets loaded into memory. That way, you don't have to worry about potentially breaking your system, as loading it safe-mode and uninstalling said programs will fix the problem.

Basically, that means if you can run windows xp, you can run windows blinds or stylexp and it should not affect anything more than changing the color of the XP skin. Of course, if i remeber right, windows blinds has a few more features and better looking skins.
