Hey :)

Recently (today) I have been getting an error from Norton Internet Security 2007 which looks like this:

Posted Image

Which then makes my 'Protection Center' look like the attached image.

When I click 'Fix Now' all it does is run LiveUpdate which does absolutly nothing.
I went on the Symantec Knowledge Base and managed to get my status back to 'Secure', but then I got the same error and my status went back to 'At Risk'

So does anyone know what is causing this error and how can I fix it?

Any help is appriciated,
Thanks,
Brad.

Oh my god why on earth are you using Nortons?
In the early days Norton was awesome, but now days it is just bloatware and not very good bloatware at that.

Save yourself the headaches and expense and go and download a copy of Avast for Home and then register that (all free) and have the best AV around for PC today.
That teamed up with Zone Alarm will get you a pretty safe system at a fraction of the cost and resources.

Oh my god. OP didn't ask for alternatives, he asked for a solution :)

Bradlc, i usually do two things when i receive an error like this. (Actually 3, but you have exhausted the first one).

Before trying anything more drastic simply google the error. It may be a common problem in which case there is probably an easy solution.

If that brings nothing, as it is an application error (or rather part of the application) i would simply try a repair option if available and if not simply reinstall norton.

Thank you for your quick reply Matthew.!
I will try what you suggested.

Rather than make a new topic... Does anyone know if Spyware Doctor is any good? I was thinking of buying it.

Thanks again,
Brad.

I personally don't have any experience with it, but looking at their front page it seems well reccomended by quite a few PC magazines and similar bodies.

Is there a trial version you could use to decide for yourself first?

For the record i use AdAware: http://www.lavasoftu...se_personal.php

There is a personal and other versions (notably "plus" for home users) with varying features, however i find the personal (and free) version easily good enough for what i want.

No you didn't, or rather you did, but you did so without engaging your brain first. The OP is using Norton which means they have already purchased it (and probably recently since it is the 07 edition) meaning they are not going to go and change to freeware applications which are arguably not as good. (ignoring resource uses). Aside from that he wanted a solution to a problem with an application, not an alternative.

I'm just in a bit of a stressed out mood I guess sorry.

Thank you both for your replies.

Matthew.: Yes they do have a free trial, it only allows you to scan, but not actually delete the spyware found, but it does seem to find alot (even when norton picks up nothing!).

Creative Insanity: Thank you for your suggestion, I will check it out.

Thabnks,
Brad.

edit:

I (well I didn't) bought Norton at the same time I bought my new PC (about a month ago).

I actually find Norton quite good at protecting my PC and finding viruses and such, but not spyware, it sucks at finding that which is why I want a good anti-spyware program

Ah well that's probably a case of the age old story there. Stick to what an application is good with. Norton = Viruses. Firewall applications = Firewall applications and Spyware/Adware cleaners = Just that.

For example (as i realise that didn't make much sense) i use Nod32, Zone Alarm and AdAware instead of using an "all in one" as Norton trys to be. If you use a dedicated program there it's more likely that it will do the job better as it's specialised. (It's rather like trying to undo a cross head screw with a flat headed screwdriver - it does the job, just not easily or very well sometimes :P)

Anyway off the point a bit, if you're immediately worried about anything on your computer that norton wont get rid of them give AdAware Personal a quick whirl.
