I just decided to make this website today, took me couple of hours with design / coding. Also bought SlideShowPro for my tuts / gallery. Please give feedback!

Not keen on the way you display the content of the tuts.. too much loading time.
Also that looks so small on my monitor hehe.

Well, how do you mean too much loading time? Wouldn't the person reading the tutorial be pausing on a step to follow along in the first place :(? On my comp it works fine, u running 56k O.o?

I think the point is that when showing a tutorial, massive images, or a series of moderately large images, are not the way to go about it. More text with some images of the steps as you go, not images of text. Besides, if your tuts get any decent amount of hits, all images like that will kill your bandwidth.

As far as the design of the website, the homepage is a bit narrow (my two computers run at 1680x1050 and 1920x1200) , but the tutorial page was wider and looked a fair bit better. I would suggest you change your homepage to be the same width, and itll take care of my other beef......the content area changing sizes. One width for the site. The forums and every other page should be uniform.

Good start tho, but you're going to need to keep working on it.

1st - there is problem with spacing, you have no top margin and there is alot of useless empty space separating the footer from content.
2nd - It's hard to find out your navigation, it has no contrast at all.
3rd - The contrast on the text of links and content is very bad, really hard to read, the font is also too small, anyone with a screen resolution bigger then 1024x768 will not be able to read your website.
4th - the letters on the header image are back foward? First time I saw I thought it was Russian or greek letters, not a very good choice.
5th - the content is not very organized. There isn't a title for news, it's centered (center algin on text looks really bad, that's why you don't see books written this way) and nothing cacthes the viewer attention.

good coding, there is just those problems in the visual part of the website.

ugh, no creativity, but thank you for your honesty. (I'm running @ 1280x1024 and can read it fine :() Sometimes you should go against the norm!

Anyways, I changed it to what you all recommended, forums are not being done yet, I'm just focusing on getting all of my tutorials up and running.

Only suggestion I have for you is to remove the music from your tutorials, it may sound good to you but not everyone is going to like your taste in music.

lol at the new linkin park stuff, some of there new stuff is ok, but theyve gone abit soft. Reanimation ftw.

Nice site by the way, but agreeing with Donna, remove the music. Another huge factor for this, is a lot of people play there own music while browsing or working on there pc's (me included) and it personally piss's me off when I have to find the sites mute button or turn mine off just to view the site. Get me? :)

Well, I finished setting up my website, http://www.pixel-effects.net, and I would like to hear what you think about it now! I have incorporated many of the suggestions about altering the appearance of the site, as well as taking some of my own ideas to re-enforce the coding of the website. Some noticable changes right off of the bat are things such as CaRP (Automated RSS Feed) and the Transitional Header. I have also expanded on the site to add new links that are necessary for a website to survive and grow!

Again, please tell me what you think!

I would also like to know if anyone would be interested in donating some of their work or allowing me / you to post it into the forums, and maybe even into the gallery off of the main page!

Thanks,
Tom Oleksy

I like the layout. It's simple, has a nice color, and fits the site's purpose well. Unlike some other people, I think the way your tutorials are set up is great ;) The page with the tutorials and the tutorials themselves. Both seem very professional, but not tacky professional, if you know what I mean :) Best of luck to you on your site!

A couple of major points.

Firstly you cannot see the menu very clearly, this needs to be worked on a lot as if you cant navigate easily why stay on the website.

Secondly, I dont really get your reasoning in flash. You have used semantic code for all the design which is what flash is good for, and used flash for the content which is what semantic code is good for (flash isnt read by Search Engines). Personally I'd lose the flash for SEO and Cross-Browser issues but perhaps thats just me.

There isnt enough contrast in the website, it needs more "zing".

Also I hate pagination on tutorials, I want to be able to just scroll down and skim read everything in 30 secs to decide whether the person knows what their talking about first. I especially dont like only seeing one stage at a time, some people may but I wouldnt have personally read any of your tutorials with a pagination system like that.

The header is cool, but I don't like how there is the dark box around the site name that you can see...I would lose that if possible.
