Has anyone looked into putting wallpapers on their websites?

I want to offer a "free stuff" section on my website and one of the main things would be to download movie/game wallpapers but what are the legalities on this?

I found one site that put this at the bottom.

i'd imagine you still need to ask the author for permission to have it on your site - if not to cover yourself on the legal side of things then just out of courtesy, regardless of whether you have the above quote on your site or not.

I want to offer ones that I make myself. I guess what I'm asking is doing I need to contact disney and say "Hey, can I use your images to make wallpapers of PoC: At World's End" or just use them with that at the bottom?

How long should one wait without a reply before assuming it is OK?

To be honest, if you are offering free wallpapers, I doubt Disney is going to come hunting you down, especially if you put that all images are registered trademarks of their respective owners.

Thanks Mark, that's what I was wondering...since it was free if it would be a big deal. Heck, I could even add a link to the main movie site and give them free advertising.

Yea im with mark on this one, bascily your site is going to be nothing to them. Unless of course you start selling wallpapers and get real big and disney notices there not getting anything on top of your profit. But that would be somthing so rare its imposible.
