Salutations everyone! :D

I've been offered a job to do an alumni site for a potential client, and I'm highly considering taking the offer, but the problem is that I've never used an alumni site before... so I was hoping that some people could help me out here.

All I want to know is basically what you can do as a user mainly. The administration stuff I'm sure we can sort out in the interview, but I just want to get at least a basic understanding of how they work for users so that I can see if it'll be worth the effort to make it or whether I should consider passing it along to someone else.

I understand that I can ask about this with my potential client, but I would much rather that I had some background on how they work so I know at least some basics of what to expect from this project.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer me. :P

Have you searched for alumni sites on the web to see if there are any out there you can get ideas from?

Hi Jacorre. :)

I have tried to search for them, but of the searches that sounded like I may be able to get a glimpse into what they offer, they require me to log in so I haven't had the chance to get a first-hand experience with what you can do exactly with alumni sites. From what I have gathered so far, it sounds as though it's just a way for graduates to keep in touch after they have left college, university or some sort of polytech. So I'm guessing forums, profiles and other sorts of community-based features will be some of the major things that will be wanted.

I'm hopefully going to see the client tomorrow and I can discuss it then, but before I meet my clients I like to do some research on what it is they have proposed to me in some sort of conference beforehand, so that I can get a general idea on what they want and try to avoid asking too many questions and taking up too much of the client's time.
