I do video training modules and I convert the recorded movie files to a .flv file so I can stream them on the web and in the past this worked fine. But now for some reason I am having a major issue with flash after it has created the FVL file.
The original .mov file is only 21.9Mb but the .flv file comes out nearly 3 times larger (77.4Mb).
Has any one got any idea why this should just start happening?
I changed none of the processes or programs I use to create the .mov files.

Im not sure of the solution but why don't you start off by reducing the size of the .mov file using one of those pirate programs about then convert it to .flv

Did you give it an alpha channel? That always kills flvs. Other than that, I would have no idea. I only integrate flv's with flash projects...its the other guys I work with that create the flvs.

I'll see if I can get some info from someone else here. One guy is rather smart. I'm convinced the guy has browsed the entire internet ... twice. (If you knew him, you'd know I'm not exaggerating)
Edit:
Talked to the guy, and he says its probably a different data rate. To see the data rate of your mov, open it up in quicktime and on pc press ctrl + j, so on mac....press j and try every other button until it shows up. Or you can jsut go Menu -> Show movie properties.
A window with some data will show up, but you might need to right (command + click?) on the top bar that has the column headers and show the data rate.
Make the data rate/bit rate for your flv the same as your mov. Should fix the problem.
He spieled this off to me right after I asked...no Googling or anything. See what I mean about this guy.

Ok on command J you don't get much. Not the data rate anyway.
The image below gives the most settings. Other then this tab there ain't that much. My QT is registered and Pro also.. so being the free limited version is not holding the settings back.

Try the mac equivalent of right clicking, or right click if you have one of the mice that can, to the right of the 'Format' header. Or maybe to the right of Extract/Delete buttons. In windows it should bring up a menu to show what data to display.

OK that worked.. hell lot more options under right click ah. Says 102.82 where medium on flash is 400.
Hmm interesting as this never happened before and never had to match those before.
Oh well will give that a shot and see what happens.

Ahh Pax I found the problem. For some reason iShowU change the video format from QT Movie to H264. I changed it back to QT Movie and done a test and the original file was 17Mb and the FLV file at high quality came out at 2.6Mb. Now that is way better.
