Does anyone here use logmein.com for any reason?
I have a client that uses this and in my view it is crap.
The thing that I REALLY HATE about companies like this is that they think that all people use a windows based machine and develop for only that. I find this arrogant and stupid.
There are a lot of companies (in the USA anyway) that use a Mac based network system and this company does not seem to be in touch with the real world.
Their support absolutely sucks and they take DAYS to answer a ticket marked as urgent.
When the do bother to respond they don't seem to read the ticket and just give hopeless replies like "works fine for me", which is no resolve for a commercial service.
In my view logmein sucks.

Logmein is OK but i prefer VNC, Logmein is a bit of a target for spammers and people looking to build botnets, because if you think about it you compromise Logmein you have the chance to compromise thousands of machines, networks etc

Yeah true.
But that is what the client has and now I have to deal with it. Which is a pain in the butt because it is slow and boring and many features just do not work on the Mac.. like the file manager. I really hate it when these type of companies only develop for one platform when there are more than that in the real world.

Yeah, they could have supported more platforms since not everyone uses windows these days, would more than likely give them more business too but oh well nothings perfect in this world :P

Hate to go off topic but you have no idea how many times I have gone to flick that bug away!

Hmm LogMeIn.com is focused on PC based remote access. So I think it's understandable that they only focus on Windows. It's also free, so you cannot expect too much from support when the product is free.

Of course if your talking about the premium version which you have purchased (or your client) and their support is dodgy then I would say thats a bit much. You would expect decent support if you pay for it.

that said I agree with Unknown1 and prefer VNC, shame your client doesn't support VNC. Of course realVNC only supports windows. I'm sure there are versions for non windows boxes. But at the end of the day Virtual Network Computing will always have an element of specific platform target because of the nature of each platform.

.mac will include this type of service when leopard is released. Of course, .mac is not free.

I personally don't see the problem in only developing for one platform. Each platform you develop for means added tech support section and added dev + debug time amongst other things. Typically it's not worth the return to spend the effort. If their target market is the majority of large companies, or individuals who want to connect to their work pc or whatever, then most of them have a Dell, or similar mass produced machine.

As a company your goal isn't to make people happy, it's to make your target market happy. (even that is debatable)

Now this is where it gets interesting. My client bought the pro account which is not cheap ($NZ84 per client per year(they have 9 clients)). They were also told at the time they paid for it that their support uses a Mac platform and logmein said that should not be a problem, but it IS!
This is the bones we have about it. They said one thing and give another.

Well then that stinks. The best they could do is demand a refund because they were sold something on the understanding that it would do X but it doesn't do X. I know the consumer laws in Australia allow you to demand a refund in such a case, and normally verbal communication is the minimum requirement (again in Australia).

Yeah every time the client mentions it they are told that changes are being put in place soon. They have been saying that for over a year now.

Don't know if you've seen it, but they do have a Mac version now.

yeah I know trigger.. I have one of the free accounts. I am working with them on the testing of their mac version as well as remote accessing a PC from a Mac.. they are getting there.
Just that i am not the most patient person when it comes to commercial applications. Their's is not cheap either.
