9 point star in photoshop

I tried the polygon tool but it didn't give me the shape I was after.

It gave me a shape similar to this:

And I'm after something more like this:

I'm stumped.

I want to make the points smaller, thicker, and wider.

By the way, is there any way to make a triangle in photoshop other than using the line tool?

The pen tool is the best for making customizable shapes. Use the rulers and snapping if needed to make complex shapes, though i think you can find ready triangles under the shape tool, just set it to paths if you want to make a selection out of it and stoke it later.

use the pen tool to trace the image like the one you weant then just rezize it

You mean like this one below?

If so I made that but creating a triangle with equal sides with the pen tool (use guides) and then turned the path into a selection and stroked it.
I then duplicated the triangle twice and with the transform tool rotated and moved them into position.
